What a week! It is one we will not forget for awhile! Jody and Rachael had arranged to take us out to dinner on Sunday, Aug. 26th for our 30th anniversary. It wasn't until Sept. 3rd, but they were going to be up in Bobcaygeon for the Labour Day weekend. Our Sunday morning started off as usual. I cooked a full bacon and egg breakfast. Then the rest of the day was rest and relax until it was time to get ready for Jody and Rachael to come out here. We were all going back to the Venus DeMilo in Blenheim for dinner. Jody and Rachael arrived around 4 p.m. They didn't seem in any hurry, so we chatted for awhile and they gave us a very nice anniversary card. We all climbed into our car and headed for Blenheim for 5 p.m. We parked the car, and all went into the restaurant. Rachael had said they had reservations, so I assumed we were going to be seated at the back and I followed Rachael in that direction, without question. She didn't turn where I thought she was going to and I hesitated, not knowing where she was going. Jody was behind me and said "Mom, follow Rachael", so I did. It was a lot like leading lambs to ............. Rachael turned at the end of the hall and started up the stairs. I was really in wonderland at this point. We never go upstairs and couldn't figure out why we would be going up there, when there were so many empty tables downstairs. Well! When we reached the top of the stairs, the first thing I noticed was lots of people. What were they all doing up here, when there were so many empty tables downstairs. Then the faces of the people started registering as I looked around. They were all our friends and family. Rachael and Jody were giving us a Surprise 30th anniversary and Boy! where we surprised. Even by brother Terry, wife Shirley, niece Cathy and great nieces Jocelyn and Cara were here from Haliburton Highlands, along with numerous nieces and nephews form this area and close friends. Over thirty people were here to share our anniversary with us. I didn't bring my camera, but Rachael and Gerry are both making cd's for me of the day, so when I get them I will post some. Here is one that Gerry has shared with us, as everyone waited for us to arrive. Not everyone that was waiting, made it into this photo.
It was a great get-together. We have visited with several of the conspirators in the past week or two and not one of them had even given a hint of this party. We had a quick visit with everyone and then went to the buffet so that everyone else could eat before they passed out from hunger. It was an excellent buffet meal of fresh mixed salad, roast beef, broasted chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, carrots, gravy and dinner rolls. The desert was our anniversary cake, which was beautifully decorated (photo another day) and ice cream. It was and excellent dinner, made better because numerous friends were sharing their time with us. We just want to thank Jody and Rachael once again, for giving us the surprise of our lives. Jody picked up the whole tab for everyone's meal, and Rachael had decorated the tables with beautiful center pieces and many other special touches. It was so great and we really enjoyed every second of it, after we got over our shock. Now that is one fantastic Son and Daughter-in Law!! The rest of the week was sort of Ho, hum after Sunday. Doug had an appointment in Windsor at Dr. Curran's office, for Dr. Curran to check his eye. We made another appointment for May of 2008. He might need more work done on the right eye. Dr. Curran says this happens at times, after having a cataract removed. Tuesday was another doctor appointment for Doug. This time for his diabetes. He has another appointment Sept. 12th with a nurse, with regards to the diabetes and maybe a med change. Wednesday we were at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance hospital at 6:30 a.m. to have an operation on his right hand. All went well and the hand is healing nicely. He will have the stitches removed on the 12th of Sept. and his therapy starts this coming week.
Thursday we drove to St. Thomas and met our good friends Peggi and John at the Wayside Dining Lounge at the corners of highways # 3 and 4. We had never stopped there before, but will be again. We had an excellent lunch buffet and Peggi and John had selections from the large menu. We all enjoyed our selections. Along with lunch came discussion on numerous subjects including this winter in the Rio Grand Valley of Texas. We will all be heading down there, but we will arrive much later then John and Peggi, as we will be stopping here and there for a week or two at a time, on our way there. We will arrive in the valley about the middle of December and stay until the middle of February. We are looking forward to our winter in Texas. We always have a good time when we meet Peggi and John for lunch. We stopped in to a campground, on the way home. It has expanded and has become quite a nice municipal campground. We are thinking of getting a seasonal site there next summer. This place is nice, but we enjoy moving and enjoying the different areas of Ontario. The seasonal rates are excellent also. Friday we caught up on numerous errands. I had twisted my back or something on Wednesday. It might have been sitting to long in the hospital chairs that did it. I am not quite sure what happened, but it is giving me a lot of grief. I haven't felt like doing to much because of it. I am working next week, so need to do laundry and numberous other things, but every time I move - OUCH x$%?%& It really hurts. Saturday the back was still being a major pain. We didn't do much of anything. We changed the dressing on Doug's hand as instructed by the surgeon directions. It is an interesting looking incision. It is a Y with a cat tail at the bottom of the Y. Sure looks sore. It also looks like it is healing well and the fingers are working great. We are both happy with those results. We went back to Venus DeMilo for a light supper. Friends Don and Emm had dropped in at the park and we invited them to go with us, but they had other plans for the evening. The owner of Venus DeMilo came to our table, after we were seated and we thanked him for a great buffet and expressed how we were surprised at the party. He just smiled ear to ear. They have owned this restaurant a very long time. It along with a brother restaurant - Jack's, is the only two restaurants we go to in Blenheim. We always have a good meal at either of the two. After a quick supper, we went and visited our niece and nephew Debbie and Gerry. We had a great chat and then returned to the coach. Today I am still resting my back. It is feeling a bit better, but still has a way to go. The laundry is going to have to wait another day. We hope everyone has had and is having a real fun Labour Day weekend. Enjoy the sun and the warmth because winter is on its way. See you all next week!
