Dec. 24-Dec. 31, 2006 Dec. 31 - We were up early, breakfast was over in a flash. Two cups of coffee and a little morning news, then it was time to move on. This is as far south as we will be going this year. Now we start our slow trip home. Doug backed the coach out of our site. Usually we back into a site, but this one was different. The park management had us drive in so that we could enjoy the birds and the pond. The site was very narrow. We don't like being on such a narrow site. We will be happy to leave the city of Fort Myers behind. We are not city people, never have been, never want to be. Soon we were on SR-80 heading straight east until we reached US-27. We drove by many sugarcane fields. Some were close to harvest, other fields looked like they had been planted only months ago. Soon the sugar clouds will blacken the sky in this area of Florida. We also drove by a orange processing plant. Many transport trucks loaded with oranges were turning into the plant. Millions of gallons of orange juice is consumed by the orange juice drinkers of the world, every year. Where would they be without Florida's sunshine in a bottle? Soon we were pulling into Robin's Nest, just north of Moore Haven, FL. We are here one night. Usually we stay for a couple of weeks. We like this park, but the owner has started charging AOR members and probably the RPI members $6.00/day for electricity, along with our normal fee we pay as a member of AOR, for camping. We paid many $$$'s for our AOR membership, and we also pay our yearly membership dues, but this campground owner has decided he wants more money and has decided that this is the way to get it. We protested the extra charge and will only stop at his parks if they are a convenient stop-over for the night. We do not like his tactics. We do realize cost have gone up, and are willing to pay a reasonable amount, but this works out to $180.00/month for electricity. We didn't pay a third of that amount to provide electricity for our 1400 sq. ft. house and 1000 sq. ft. garage, when we were home owners. So one night is all that we will be staying here, if it is on the way to where we are going. We move on to our next stop for the month of January. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and enjoyable evening, spent with friends and
family. Dec. 30 - We took the satellite internet dish down on Dec. 30th, put the bikes on the bicycle rack, and the stone guard on the front of the car. We are ready to leave tomorrow. The weather has been REAL nice. We had a couple of days with rain, but overall the whole month has been excellent. We do enjoy traveling, after all that is what this lifestyle is all about, so we are looking forward to getting out of the city and onto the open roads. Dec. 29 - I don't know where this week has gone. We move Sunday and preparing for our move must be slowing down, for us to be that slow getting ready for the mover. We did wash the coach and then had to wash all the windows with vinegar and water to get rid of the hard water spots. They are nice and clean now. We have been taking a daily run to our mailbox waiting for our mail from Ontario. It was sent by Express post Dec. 4th, left Canada Dec. 6th and arrived here in Fort Meyers Beach, FL today, Dec. 29th. Twenty-three days for an envelope to come by United States Postal Service, once it came into their possession. I could say more, but we are just thankful the envelope arrived before we left. We have taken some drives right down to Fort Meyers Beach, but have not walked on the beach yet. We plan on doing that tomorrow. We can't leave here without walking on the beach at least once. Tomorrow the satellite dish has to be packed up for our move on Sunday. We wish everyone a Happy New Year and we will see you next year. Dec. 26 - Yesterday was a difficult day for some in Florida. The news reported a tornado touching down, causing considerable damage in Deland, FL. We had some strong winds and heavy rain at times, but nothing like others experienced. Once again our Guardian Angel has kept the danger away from us. Thank-you! The new park model, two sites over from us, received some much needed attention today. The work crew came in early, just after day light and started putting the two sides together. There was one fellow up on the roof, making quick work of joining the two halves into one unit. He put several different layers of roofing over the peak of the unit, to ensure no water would get through. We hope his employer knows what a great worker he is. This worker was very efficient, using both hands to complete each task in one fluid motion. He was interesting to watch as he competed his job, even though it was pouring rain at times. At one point he was removing plastic from between the two sides and used part of the plastic as a temporary poncho. He didn't wear it very long because it was hindering his work. That is dedication beyond what most workers would even think of doing. We will be taking down the sunscreens and boxing up all of the Christmas decorations over the next few days. We will be moving on down the road on Sunday, Dec. 31, or should I say up the road as we are going east and north of here. We hope you all had a Merry Christmas however you celebrated it. Dec. 25th - We wish all our Family, Friends-including our Readers a very Merry Christmas and Happy, healthy New Year We received and made some phone calls this morning to wish everyone the best of the season, after a very traditional breakfast of bacon and eggs. I turned on the computer to check e-mails and received a Weather bug alert. Tornadoes, hail up to 1" in diameter and damaging winds could be in our near future. Here is a weather bug screen shot
and a radar shot
We have all the hatches battened down, the turkey is in the oven and we will wait it out, like we have done before. One advantage of a motorhome is the extra weight to keep you anchored to the ground in high winds. We might rock and roll a bit, but at least we don't turn turtle with our rubber in the air. Not so far anyway. Lets hope we keep it that way. Speaking of storms - there is a very disturbing report coming out in January about all the waste of money, with regards to Katrina. You can read this article, just out today. It is so sad, all the victims of the hurricane have been through and then for this to be added. It is a major insult to injury. Bureaucracy strikes again. Dec. 24 - This is where we have been for the past month
As some of you know, our satellite dish number is 3528. This is the first time we have stayed in one spot this long, in the southern states. We enjoy moving around every couple of weeks, because it gives us something new to do. We now realize being parked for a month is to long a time, after being on a seasonal site all summer. We will be happy to be on the move Dec. 31. That is the good news, the other news is we will be at our next park for a month also. Maybe we will get to like it. Indian Creek is a nice park for seasonal units. It is not a true RV park. Very few sites are for transient units. We enjoy our nomad life and being with others of the same nature. The people of this park are more rooted and do not go out of their way to be friendly to transients. We always say "Hi" and all the rest and the biggest share of the time, people don't let on that they hear us. Maybe they didn't, but I don't believe everyone is hard of hearing and it is very hard to ignore a person that has a big smile and a wave (which I always have). I guess different parks, different people, different attitudes, the same as every other part of this great big world of ours. One thing we know is we have been friendly to everyone and that is what counts to us. We are all ready for Christmas. It will be a quiet day for us, but we are doing what we want to do and we are together, healthy and happy doing it. What more could a couple ask? We want to enjoy today and now because we never know what tomorrow will bring. God willing, we will continue doing what we want, going where we want, for many years to come. Fulltime RVing allows us to be where we want, when we want to be there. No snow for us this Christmas, but we can go swimming outside if that is what we want to do. This is our weather today
Rain is forecast for today. At times it has clouded over, but no rain. Just glorious warm weather. We hope everyone has a very special day, whether you are with family and friends or in whatever way you decide to spend your day - enjoy! Merry Christmas Everyone!
