Dec. 17 - 23, 2006 - Hanging around in Fort Myers Beach area.

Dec. 22 -  Wow! Where does the time go ever day?  Even though we aren't having a large Christmas, there is still lots to do.  We do enjoy our traditional Christmas dinner and that takes some prep.  The grocery stores are packed and everyone is stopped in the middle of the aisles debating about which of the many products to buy.  Some are wandering aimlessly it appears, trying to find one or two items that are necessary, but illusive.  I know that I went around the store at least three times before finding all the items I needed.  I am sure glad that is over with.  Unfortunately, I no sooner then arrived back here and realized I had forgotten the carrots.  Doug doesn't eat carrots and I was buying them for myself.  I will have to figure out if I want to brave the mobs and buy the carrots, or eat green beans.  I think that it will be green beans unless I change my mind.

We did go looking for the fleamarket in North Fort Myers on 41 North, but didn't find it.  We did however find our bank.  That was a bonus.  We also looked around a few stores and bought lunch at Piazza Hut.  We don't eat out very often, so any meal away is a treat.  We both had the buffet with salad bar.

We were watching the morning news Tuesday morning and Doug said "What is that on the windshield?"  I looked and this is what I saw

It was a beautiful sunrise and there was something else.  It was in-between the windshield sunscreen and the windshield.  Here is a closer look

We don't know how he got in-between the sunscreen and the windshield and he definitely didn't get in from the bottom.  He came from the top of the coach down.  He must have dropped from a nearby tree onto our roof and then had to figure out how to get to the ground.  He couldn't get out the bottom of the sunscreen, so Doug went out and lifted the bottom of the screen so he could slide out and be on his way.  We know that we can expect to see lots of critters on our windshield, but never expected a frog to be one of them 8)

We also took a drive to Fort Myers Beach United States Post Office to see what they had to say about our missing Express mail from Ontario.  They said to have Ontario Post Office do a trace tracking for it.  They have no way of tracking anything from Canada.  When the envelope (even though it was Express Post) comes into the United States, the envelope is given a new tracking number and there is no way to link the Canadian tracking number to the new one given to it by the United States Post Office.  Rachael went to the post office in Ontario, where the Express Post was sent from and the Post Office told her that the envelope can't be tracked, until they have been notified that it has been delivered.  So much for the Post Office always delivering the mail.  If it had been delivered to the person it was sent to, why would it have to be traced?  Why isn't it possible to track a letter through the Post Office website?  It would be a simple solution for the post office to enter the new tracking number into there system, cross-referenced to the sending countries tracking number.  If the sending countries tracking number was entered in the correct window, then the new tracking number would show in the cross-reference and you would have the new cross-reference number to track the package with.  How had would that be?  Maybe someday, the post offices will catch onto this simple solution to tracking packages.

Anyway, I am going to busy the next few days and will not be posting again until after Christmas.  Doug and I both wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Dec. 17 - Christmas is just around the corner.  Everyone is in a festive mood, decorating their homes for the Christmas season.  As dusk falls the park turns into a multitude of colored lights and displays.  It is amazing all of the creative ways people have of celebrating the season.

Earlier in the day we were going to go to a Fleamarket  we have never been to before.  After reading the email from one of our readers again, we decided to wait until the Wednesday market which is supposed to have more vendors.  By the way, we love hearing from our readers.  We meet so many nice people this way 8)

Doug decided to work on my bike.  It has been in sad shape for a couple of years after a slight accident had bent the frame.  I really like my bike, but the frame needed to be replaced.  I saw a free bike with flat tires and in sad need of some TLC.  I brought it home and we checked it out.  The frame was in good shape, so this morning Doug finished the transformation.  My old bike looks very sad and forlorn with only the bent frame remaining.  On the other had, the free bike is now in a very perky state, with new wheels and tires, handlebars and seat.  I took it for a ride and enjoyed how quiet it was.  My old bike used to squeak and squawk at every turn of the wheel.

We hope that you all have all of your Christmas shopping finished so that you can enjoy these last days before Christmas.  You know "Tis the season to be jolly"  Merry Christmas everyone.
