Feb. 24 - Another week has gone. We have left the RGV for this year. The weather has been very warm and humid. A lot like summer in southern Ontario. We will be returning around the first of Nov., 2008 if all goes as planned. We will be leaving our coach in Michigan at one of our home parks, in November, if we do not sell it. If we sell it this summer, then we will be buying a pick-up truck and we will bring the 5th wheel home with us next spring. Time will tell which way we go with this. We are looking forward to being home and seeing our son and daughter-in-law again. They were not able to come down at Christmas so it has been several months since we have seen them. Rachael lost her Grandfather yesterday and our thought and prayer are with them. Clarence went the way I would like to go. He was on his way to the store on his scooter and with no forwarning, he was gone. No suffering, just gone. He will be sadly missed because he was a great guy. We always enjoyed our chats with him and wife Rita, at family gatherings. We are now at one of our membership parks, through Resorts of Distinction. It is a Western Horizons park just east of Fulton - Bayview. We stopped here for two weeks on our way to the valley, back in Dec. 2007. There are lots of activities in this park and lots of people enjoying them. We are parked right across from the clubhouse this time, making everything easy to attend. We have had real good weather this winter, with very few rain days. We had a few cool days in the fall, as we took our time coming south to where we knew the weather would be warm. Before we left the Rio Grand Valley, we met Peggi and John for a nice farewell luncheon. We had a great visit with them and won't see them again until sometime this summer in Ontario. They are leaving the valley March 7th to go to Perry, Georgia where Peggi will give her seminar several time on Traveling to Canada. After that they will move on south to visit her sister at a park near Bushnell, FL before leaving for southern Ontario and the Woodstock area. Snowbirds, at this time of the year, are on the move. Some are east or west, others further south, or as we are, chasing the snow back north to our summer homes. We keep the highways and byways well populated with our chosen form of travel, all enjoying this great weather and friends. We haven't done much site seeing here. We know that there is lots to do and see, but we have just been hanging out and relaxing. This is our fourth year of full-timing and we still enjoy the lifestyle, but don't find it necessary to rush around seeing everything as we once did when we only had a few weeks each year to enjoy the adventure. We want to thank all of you that have taken the time to look at the ads from our advertisers. They help to pay for this website by you looking at their ads. They are a great bunch of advertisers and we are happy that you are taking a minute of your time to look at their websites. If you are planning a trip in the near future, you might want to look at the Kayak site on the left side of this page also. They have some great deals for travel, to all points of the map. March is just around the corner and that is when we will do our next update. We are not sure where we will be at that time, as it will depend on the weather. Until next time, take care and keep warm. Feb. 16 - Not sure where this month has gone, but it is flying by. We had a few cool days here (in the 50's) but overall it has been a great winter. Today temps have topped out at 85*F. We have the air conditioner running instead of the furnace. This is why we are in the RGV. We had filled our big propane tank on the coach, the end of November, when we were at Turtle Bayou. We filled it this past week again and it took a grand total of $19.50 to fill it. How is that for a winter heating bill? We haven't posted in awhile because we have had a few family issues and we just didn't feel like updating our blog. There are some things that just can't be shared here. We respect our family members privacy. At one point we were unhooked and ready to leave for our home base. After a few more phone calls they convinced us to wait, that there was nothing really we could do and we should just stay and they would let us know if we should return home. Much of the joy of being in the RGV departed with that phone call, we received Jan. 26th. We have been able to monitor from here, everything as it has unfolded. The final diagnosis could be better, but it could have been a lot worse also. We continue to hope and pray for the best. We have kept busy sharing a nice lunch with 122 other Canadians January 31st. We also continued our search for a 5th wheel trailer. We went looking from the western edge of the valley to the eastern edge and ended up finding it just down the street in this park. We were sitting contemplating where to look next or did we really want to continue looking. A knock came on the door. Andy and Dorothy, residents from down the street in the winter and Ontario residence in the summer came asking if we were still looking for a 5th wheel trailer. After a few negotiations it was a done deal and we are now 5th wheel trailer owners. They have bought a park model here in the park. We moved several tote boxes of "stuff" including Christmas decorations to the new trailer. Next winter we will return to the valley and will become 5th wheel trailer residents. We are going to advertise our coach for sale when we return to Ontario. If we sell it, we will make arrangements for our accommodations until we return to the valley in November. If we don't sell it then we will leave it in Michigan and drive to the RGV in our car. We will still be full-timers, just part time Class A and part time 5th wheel. If we sell, we will sell the car and buy a truck to pull the trailer. This is all in preparation to simplifying our lives even more. I feel much more comfortable driving a truck then I do the Class A and we are preparing in advance for Doug to no longer drive us to and from our summer and winter destinations because of his Macular Degeneration. We also like the savings we will have with the new arrangement. We will only have one motorized vehicle to maintain and insure. Fifth Wheel trailers do not depreciate as fast as a motorhome do either. Last Sunday our friends Tom and Doris from Ontario picked us up at 8:30 a.m. and we all went to the Echo Hotel on Closure in Edinburgh, for breakfast. They put on a real nice breakfast buffet including beverage for under $12.00 a couple. We really enjoyed a great visit and a delicious breakfast. Doris and I both had omelets, which were made according to our preference, right while we waited and watched them cook it at the omelet bar. We are returning to the Echo Hotel this Monday to have either breakfast or lunch with our friends John and Peggi, as our farewell meal. We leave the RGV on Tuesday. Our next stop is Bayview in the Fulton/Rockport area of Texas. It is getting very hot here for us and it is time to move to a bit cooler area. Next winter we will be here for five month, if all goes as planned. Time will tell. We also had our coach washed and waxed including the roof for a very reasonable $90.00 by Texas Tropics Mobile Wash (956)780 2696. These guys do a great job and we will be sure to use them again. They charged $1 to wash and $1 to wax per foot and $18 to wash the roof. They are very proud workers and really pay attention to the details. They even did the windows on the outside. They took half a day to wash this 35 ft coach including the roof. They really washed and waxed every square inch of this coach. We highly recommend them. They washed numerous coaches and trailers here and I am sure that they will be back when we need another wash and wax. It was so good to have such a great cleaning job done on the roof and not have to worry about Doug taking a dizzy spell and falling off the roof. It is much better to pay the $18 and have the roof professionally cleaned. We also had several stone chips repaired on the coach windshield and also one on the car. Fred's Windshield Repair came to the park, doing the repair right here on our site. Fred did a great job and he also covers the whole RGV. You can make an appointment for a repair by calling (918)645-9495. He does quality work at a reasonable price. We are sure happy to have those chips taken care of. We have really enjoyed our stay here in the valley at Citrus Mobile RV park at 1700 Lime St., Edinburg and look forward to returning this fall. This is a very friendly park with numerous activities. The pool is nice and warm and Corey in the office sure does her best to keep everyone happy. Shopping is close by along with many good eating places, from fast food to quality dining. It is a great area to be in for the winter. That just about raps it up for this time. We hope that you all are staying safe and happy wherever you may be. Spring is just over a month away and summer will be here again before we know it. For all our northern readers we are sending you sunshine and warm temps. We cannot guarantee a delivery date, but they are on the way. Watch for them! We will see you all at our next update. If you have a few extra minutes after reading this, our advertisers would sure be happy if you took a closer look at their ads.
