January 2005

Okeechobee Landing is a Coast to Coast Deluxe, Resort Parks International and Adventures Outdoor Resorts membership park.  We have all of those memberships and also Resorts of Distinction Plus, Passport America, Explorer, and Good Sam.  We came back into the park on our Coast to Coast Deluxe membership for 11 nights.  Normally we would have been back in for two weeks, but I had not made the reservations far enough in advance to get the full two weeks.  No problem.  We enjoyed the stay and the glories southern Florida weather.  The temperature didn't even drop at night enough for the furnace to come on.  Every day was a shorts day.  After breakfast I took a walk around the park.  I had lots of company, because everyone else seemed to be out enjoying their walk also.  Later on it was pool time.  Every day was nicer then the previous one.

There is a craft sale at the clubhouse on Saturday mornings.  One lady was selling all of her craft supplies because they weren't coming back in the 2005-2006 season.  The couple had a seasonal site and she had accumulated a large amount of crafts which she left in their park model, to work on  the next winter.   I had bought some of the supplies when we were here before, and I ended up with more on this Saturday.  I don't know what I will do with them, but I couldn't resist, when she smiled up at me and told me she wasn't coming back, so had to sell her supplies.  She was in her 80's and everyone's idea of a perfect Grandmother.  What a charming smile she had.

When I got back to our coach home Doug said " what are you going to do with all that stuff?  Where are you going to store it?"  I said that I would find a place (at the same time, I was racking my brain to figure out where I was going to put it.)   It took awhile, but I finally found spots to put everything away.  Don't know if I will ever make use of it, but she was an excellent sales person.

We took short drives around to see the surrounding area, had numerous trips to Wal*Mart and enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine.

On January 11th we moved back to Marine RV Resort for seven nights with our RPI Membership- $8.00/night.  We went up to the large open flea-market in Okeechobee, one day.  We just got there and it started raining.  I mean raining cats and dogs, there was large poodles everywhere ;}.  The wind was blowing so hard that the rain was blowing sideways right under the roof of the flea-market.  All the vendors were rushing to grab their merchandise as it tried to blow out the other side of the market.  There was no place to stand under the roof, that protected you from the rain that was blowing in through the open walls.  It was quite an experience.  The rain soon passed and we were so soaked that we decided to go back to our coach.  We will leave seeing the market until another sunny day.

Back at the coach we watched the fishermen come and go.  This is a very popular spot for fishermen.

January 18th we moved back to Okeechobee Landing for 2 weeks with our Coast to Coast Deluxe membership.  We settled back in and enjoyed the weather.  We toured the park on our bicycles every day, and I went for my walk around the park.  Some days I went to the craft classes and enjoyed some social time with the ladies.  Doug met some kindred spirits to swap stories with.

We always enjoy our stay at Okeechobee Landing.

February 2005

On Feb. 1 we moved on up Interstate 27 just north of Marine RV to Robin's Nest, just north of Moorehaven, FL.  We were booked in here for 7 nights with our RPI membership.  Our son Jody and our daughter-in-law Rachael came south for a week of holidays and joined us at Robin's Nest for a few days.  We went back over to the flea-market at Okeechobee and wandered around for a while.  We all bought a few things, nothing memorial, but it was a nice day away together.

Rachael and I decided to drive into Wal*Mart at Clewiston.  We were slowed to a stop because of smoke blowing across the road on our way there.  It was a black wall filled with big chunks of black soot. They were getting ready to harvest the sugar cane.

Jody and I wanted to see  Key West, so we all went for a drive

Even though we just had the one day in Key West, we did a lot of the tourist stuff including this picture of Jody and another guy at this well known geographical marker. We even sampled the famous frozen Key Lime pie on a stick.  It was really good.

It is a long drive from Clewiston to Key West and back. We were all very tired by the time we got back north of the Keys and I missed our turn.  I ended up driving through Miami, in heavy traffic, not knowing where to turn.  I finally found our highway.  What a relief.  We were all ready to call it a day when we got back to Okeechobee Landing.  We were all glad that we had went.  Next time we will try to stay longer.  All to soon it was time for Jody and Rachael to start back north.  Rachael had time to get quite a suntan, to show off when she got home to the cold north.  She was happy.

On February 13 we started our journey north.  We just didn't go as fast, or as far.  We stopped at Peace River for three nights, then moved on to Three Flags, near Wildwood, Florida.  We stayed there for two weeks with our Coast to Coast Deluxe membership.  We were still enjoying beautiful warm weather.  It was nearly time for Spring to arrive, but we don't know how it could get better then this.  February has been a great month.
