Jan. 20 - 21, 2007 - Saturday was quiet, we needed a quiet day. Sunday we drove up to Florida Flywheeler Park just north of Avon Park. Two of our readers Marg and Russell have been there enjoying the swap meet and e-mailed us to let us know they were there for a few days. We had planned on enjoying the show also. We were still recovering from our trip back to Ontario, so decided that we would not attend the show and swap meet. We did want to meet Marg and Russell though, so drove up today (Sunday) to see them. We enjoyed meeting you Marg and Russell. You have a beautiful motorhome and we home that you have many happy miles of travel in it. Marg and Russell had also purchased a 3i Communications Internet Anywheresystem before they left Ontario. They had called Armand at 3i Communications and spoke to Todd. They had their system shipped to them. Russell said that within minutes of setting the system up, they were online. They enjoy being on the internet 24/7 a much as the rest of us do. Russell likes having the ability to research things that he sees in their travels. He says that he can see something, come back to the coach, do a search on it and learn all about it. I think that we all enjoy having the world at our finger tips. Travel is so much more enjoyable, being able to stay connected to our families and instant news from around the world. If you are thinking on an satellite internet system, on either side of the Canadian/United States border, give Armand a call (866) 494-4801 and he will be happy to give you all the details of this fantastic system. Please let him know that Bonnie and Doug of RVCruising asked you to phone. We are close to being back to normal. Our old bones don't travel that well anymore. We are used to taking our time and travel at our leisure. Four -eleven our days in the car of the past six days we were away, is not our idea of a fun time, but necessary. Tomorrow is a new week and a new adventure. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of our lives. We will enjoy each day we have left on this earth, for as we have learned before and had re-enforced these past days, one never knows when this could be our last day. Enjoy you day and we will hopefully be around next week. 8)
Jan. 19, 2007 - Checking e-mail this morning, we were saddened to read another life long friend of Doug's has passed from this world. Doug and John worked together, after Doug left school. They have remained friends every since. John was diabetic, with many more medical problems. He went to the hospital on Friday, before we left to return to Florida. The Doctors transferred him to London that Friday, where he remained until he left this earth. We will not be returning for John's funeral, but John and his family are in our thoughts and prayers. There is just no way that we can get back in the car to return to Ontario again, this soon. One or both of us would end up in the hospital from exhaustion or worse. We phone our Son Jody and he is going to go to the funeral to express our condolences. Thank-you Jody. The rest of the day we didn't do much. Events like the past couple of weeks, just makes us realize how precious life is and how much we have to be thankful for. We love this lifestyle, but it is difficult no being home with our family and friends when everyone needs the support of others. Doug was quiet, not saying much and for him that is unusual. I am sure he was thinking of Betty and John, two friends we are both going to miss.
Jan. 17-18th, 2007 - We didn't do much of anything. Just what was necessary. We had traveled enough in the past few days. There was one thing we did do, and are glad that we did. We went to the Tampa RV Show on Wednesday. Even with over an hour to drive, we were still there before the gates opened. We walked around the booths. Visited with friends Peggi and John from RV Living at a booth shared with Southern RV Promotions (Southern RV Promotions had some great money saving coupons for Encore Parks in Florida and Texas) , sat in on a presentation by Thousand Trails and decided a couple of hours were long enough at the show. We just hadn't recovered from our long travel days and the loss of our friend Betty, to be able to enjoy the show. We had lunch on the way home and were back here by 1 p.m. The rest of the day was just sit back and relax time. Jan. 16, 2007 - We were up early, at our usual time, even though we were both feeling exhausted. At breakfast I realized that I was going to have to do a couple of things I didn't want to do. We needed groceries and clean clothes. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to relax. I went to Lake Placid for the grocery shopping, came back, had lunch, did laundry and vegged out for the rest of the day. It will take a few days to recover from our fast trip to Ontario and back. Tomorrow will be a bit better.
Jan. 15, 2007 - Happy Anniversary Rachael and Jody. Today is their 10th Anniversary. We were up early and on the road. We wanted to be around Atlanta, GA. before the morning traffic. Soon I was on the I-285 by-pass around Atlanta. The traffic wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be. Before Doug realized where I was, we were an hour south of Atlanta and back on I-75. Miles slipped behind us very quickly. We crossed the Georgia/ Florida state line and were within hours of being back home. We can hardly wait. We left I-75 behind at Ocala, going east on I-40. If we hadn't been so tired, we would have realized that we should have stayed on I-75 south further and got off closer to SR-60. We ended up in a lot of stop and go traffic on US-27. Our trip home just became longer. We did hang in there and were home by 5 p.m. It has been a long day. We were on the road at 3:30 a.m. this morning. We had 12+ hours on the road today. Tomorrow is a do nothing day. We need to recover from the past 6 days.
Jan. 14, 2007 - We were on the road heading south before sun rise. Customs asked their usual questions and we gave them our answers, and away we went. The next stop was to pay our toll. The attendant asked if we were going south on I-75. We answered in the affirmative. He then proceeded to tell us I-75 over the top of Detroit was closed due to a big accident. He said that we would be re-directed. We got on I-75 and as he said was re-directed. Only problem was, there was no indication on how to get around the detour, or to get back on I-75. We know places we would rather be then driving around Detroit in the dark, not knowing where to go. We finally reached DIX, a street we recognized and knew we could follow until we reached I-75 where it wasn't blocked off. We lost about 1 1/2 hours of driving time, trying to get back onto I-75 south. Finally we were able to and it didn't turn out all that bad, as we were in Taylor, MI when we finally returned to I-75. Breakfast and fuel was now on our minds. We had left early because of bad weather. We had been in heavy rain for the first few hours, now the rain had stopped, the temperature was up to the point we did not have to worry about it freezing, so now it was our turn. Back on the highway, we were heading south, putting many miles between us and the border. The day was uneventful after we got through Detroit and we pulled off at Sweetwater, TN for the night. Tomorrow we will be home if all goes well. Follow this link for a chuckle. RV'er enjoying lifeto the fullest.
