Jan. 17th - Time to get ready for our next destination. We are leaving Yuma Lakes, Yuma, AZ tomorrow. We will be at Casa Grande for a few days . We had everything gathered up and put away. We are getting to be experts at our leaving routine. We have decided to wait until tomorrow morning to take down the hummingbird feeder. We want one last day to enjoy their antics. Jan. 18th we were up early and ready to roll. Doug has not enjoyed his visit to Arizona. He has become quite depressed. He needs GREEN. He finds Arizona cold and dry. He says that all of the campgrounds are like camping in the middle of a gravel pit. I don't know what he expected of a desert state, but he is happy to leave. Me, on the other hand, believes that Arizona is beautiful, with lots to see and do. I love the views of the mountains and hills, the contrasting colors and shades as the sun and moon goes through their cycles of day and night. There are so many historical sites to see. What an interesting place. I could spend months here exploring and enjoying. We pulled out into the street to hook up. Doug looked back at our site and there was the hummingbird hovering in his usual place, wondering where the feeder had gone. He was quite agitated poor fellow. We will miss you. We hooked up and left. Soon we were heading east on I-8. We came
up behind a convoy of military vehicles going through a pass. There were several vehicles ahead of this one. The gun was even manned on the one unit. Another unusual site for us. They were traveling much slower then we were, so Doug pulled out and passed the whole, long convoy. They were an impressive group of men and vehicles. Before long we were at Casa Grande and set up for the next few days. We plan on visiting Grand Canyon and Casa Grande. We are in for a few busy days, but this is our last chance to see these places. I am making separate entries for them so that the pages load quicker. I have added several photos of each. We enjoyed our visit to both places. You can read about our visit to Casa Grande here and Grand Canyon here. Time in this area has come to the end. On to Benson tomorrow and hopefully another visit to Tombstone. We will go down town this time.8) January 24, 2006 - As usual, we were up early and on our way. St. David south of Benson will be our last stop in Arizona. We are here for only four nights. It was a nice drive from Casa Grande to St. David. We checked in using our Coast to Coast Deluxe membership. Doug is very anxious to be heading east. He misses the trees and grass. The main reason we stopped here is because he wants to see downtown Tombstone before we leave Arizona Jan. 25, 2006 - Today is Tombstone day. Doesn't look to promising
though. This is the first rain we have seen since we left home in October,
accept for about 6 drops in Colorado River, Ehrinburg, AZ. Even though the clouds were black, the rain didn't last long. You would have needed a stop watch to time it by the second. Soon the sun was out and temperature started to climb. We knew the route and were on our way. We didn't go back to Boothill.
We went straight for the downtown. Tombstone Main Street
You could take a ride on a stagecoach if you wanted to.
Sonora Sam
Tombstone Main Street
Tombstone Courthouse
This is the Robot shoot out at the OK corral. Told the whole story while we were waiting for the re-enactment with live actors to take place.
The shoot out at the OK Corral. Great actors, enjoyed the show, lots of comedy
Wyatt Earp's home Don't think the garage and car would have been there in his day though. 8) We ended our day back at the coach in St. David. We didn't do much the following couple of days. We knew that we would be having a long day on January 27th. Jan. 27, 2006 - Happy Birthday Jody, sorry your Mom isn't home for your Birthday. It is just to long a drive to see you today. Jan. 28, 2006 - It is moving day again. We are headed east. Arizona was nothing but a memory within a couple of hours of leaving St. David. Doug had a heavy foot and was wanting to get as far across New Mexico as possible. He needed grass, BAD. Must be because he spent so much time in gravel pits when he was a truck driver. He really didn't want to see any more gravel for a very long time. We beat tracks east and stopped at Coachlight Motel and Rv in Las Cruces, New
Mexico. There is a couple of unusual sites here. Best that I show
you, hard to explain. This looks to be home sweet home
This one was right beside the one above. Maybe they are family. Never did see anyone around these untis. Jan. 29, 2006 - We are on our way again. We are changing time zones so quickly that I use my cellphone time display to let me know what time zone we are in. Doug has a big smile on his face, he can smell trees and grass. We are stopping in Fort Stockton, TX for a couple of days. Our next reservation with a membership park isn't until Feb. 2, at Lazy Palms in Edinburg, TX. We found a Passport America park called Parkview just south at the four corners in Fort Stockton. We booked in for two nights. The price is right and there is free wifi. A unit pulled up beside us and the people plugged in, climbed aboard and settled in. It was a very unusual RV, but they were happy with it. We just wandered where they were headed with it. Sure wasn't anyplace to make use of it in this area. I am sure they knew where to find what they needed though. Here are a few more photos from Fort Stockton. We didn't go into the
museum because Doug wasn't feeling well, but I enjoyed the building
anyway. I love old buildings. If they could only speak!
Jan. 31, 2006 - The last day of January and we are heading east on I-10 and then south on US-83. We saw lots of deer and other wild life along the way. It is an interesting drive down US-83 and the road was good. We weren't sure where we were going to spend the night, but knew we would find a place along the way. There was another park called Parkview Riverside in Frio Rio, TX. We drove past it and had to turn and go back. We are glad that we did. The people were so friendly at the park. We could have spent the rest of the winter there with no problem. We filled with propane and then went on to our site. I went for a walk and this is what I saw...
The water of the Rio Frio is clear and blue. What a lovely
shade of blue. A couple of ducks (I think) was enjoying the water.
This is the end of January and we move on to southern Texas tomorrow. I wonder what we will find there?
