Jan. 27, 2008 - Thirty-six years ago this morning I became a Mother for the first and only time.  Happy Birthday Jody and we hope that you have many more Happy Birthdays.  I don't think that we say it enough, but we want you to know that Mom and Dad love you so much!!!

Another week has come and gone in the RGV.  We don't know where the time goes, but it is disappearing quickly.  In just over 80 days we will be back in Ontario.  It has been a good winter here in the valley and we look forward to coming back next winter, if all goes as planned.

We went to a few RV dealers this week.  We are thinking of buying a 5th wheel trailer.  We aren't sure yet, so will continue to look for the perfect (for us) unit.  We have lived in our present coach for close to four years now with no slides and we don't miss them.  However, what we do miss is a nice comfortable recliner chair or maybe even two of them.  Not a real reason to sell this coach, but one of the things on our list of must haves if we buy another unit.  We would also like to have a free standing table and chairs, so that is on our list of must haves.  We have a table and bench seats right now.  It is nice when we are traveling, but we would enjoy being able to adjust the chair to where we are comfortable with it.  We could modify our coach, by taking out the couch and adding a recliner or some other type of chair and we could also remove the table or make this one free standing.  We are usually both on the same page when it comes time for a change and I think in the book of life our page on display right now is displaying a fifth wheel trailer.  We would then have to purchase a truck to pull it and several other adjustments, but that is the fun part of this life.  Things change if and when you want them to.  It keeps life interesting.  We have also met many more people in our quest to find our perfect 5th wheel.  We will have to wait and see if we buy one or not.

We came back to the coach on Friday, late in the afternoon and there was a note on our door.  Friends Tom and Doris from Chatham, Ontario was here in the park for one night.  We knew they were on their way to the RGV, but didn't know they were stopping here at Citrus Mobile RV park.  What a nice surprise.  We jumped back in the car, and went to visit them.  We had about an hour visit then came back to our coach.  They hadn't had dinner yet and we know it is important for Tom to eat on a regular schedule like Doug has to because they are both diabetic.  We also had a short visit with them Saturday morning.  We will be seeing them again at the luncheon on Jan. 31st.  I was talking to Peggi (our host) today and she says she has about 110 people confirmed for the luncheon, so it should be a real fun time.  Come and join us if you are in the area.  Details are in the previous post below this one.

We are going to continue our search for a 5th wheel tomorrow.  Gives us lots of exercise walking in and out of the units, up and down stairs along with an interesting way to pass some time.

We have added a new page for RV dealers.  We will be adding to this site as time goes by.  If you are looking for a RV dealer, please check out our new RV Dealer page

In closing I would like to thank everyone who took the time to check out some of the ads on our borders.  These ads are very important to us and helps us to pay for this website.  Our advertisers are very important to us also and we are happy that you, our reader are taking that time to click on an advertisement to see what our advertisers have to offer.  If you are planning a trip in the future, you might like to check out the Kayak ad in our left border.  They have some very good deals on travel to many near and distant locations.  I am sure you will be glad that you took the time to check out their excellent travel resources.

Have a safe fun week everyone and we will check back in with an update as soon as we have something interesting to pass on.  See you then!

Jan. 20, 2008 - We hope everyone had a very Happy Holiday.  We know we did.  It doesn't take much to make us happy.  We miss being home with our family for the holidays, but we sure enjoy the warm weather and that is what makes us happy.  We don't enjoy all the aches and pains that comes along with being in the cold Canadian winters.

I have started to update our site, but haven't accomplished as much as I had planned because my poor computer got sick.  The hot weather here in Edinburg, Texas (gateway to the Rio Grande Valley) is more then it could handle.  Everytime my computer started working a bit harder it would just overheat and shut down.  No warning, just one minute working and the next minute black screen.  That is even worse then the dreaded blue screen.  Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

We hadn't planned on buying a new computer, but it became necessary.  I will have my Toshiba fixed, hopefully, when we get back to Ontario and use it as a backup.  Time that I had planned on using to update the site ended up getting necessary information transferred from my Toshiba (in case it died completely) onto the new notebook.  Thank goodness I didn't experience much of a learning curve getting used to the Vista operating system.  The transfer went a lot easier because of my 300 gig external hard drive.  I just backed everything up to the hard drive and then re-installed to the Vista.  The Toshiba shut down a couple of times, so I ended up with 2 and 3  copies of several photos and other files.  I have deleted numerous duplicate photos, but still have several hundred to go.  I used a free Double Killer program which works well and has made the fix a lot easier.   This coming week I will be able to start working on the website updates, hopefully, if nothing else happens.

We haven't been doing much.  We went to the RV Show in La Feria.  It is a lot smaller then the one in Tampa, Florida but we enjoyed getting out and looking at the new units as well as browsing through the vendors area.

We are really enjoying  Citrus Mobile RV Park.  We aren't right down in what is considered the Rio Grande Valley proper, but to us that is good.  We don't have all of the traffic to deal with every time we leave the park, like others do along Business 83.  There isn't as much highway construction in this area  either, so that is another bonus.  Shopping for groceries and of course the necessary Wal*Mart Supercenter is all within 5 miles of our park.  Traffic even in rush hour is acceptable.  We like this area.

We have visited the Weslaco Fleamarket a few times and have also been able to buy real fresh vegetables and fruit across the street from the fleamarket at the Farmers Market.  Texas oranges and grapefruits are the sweetest citrus fruit I have ever tasted.  They are delicious.  We plan on enjoying the fresh produce the rest of the winter.  The prices are great also.

We would like to invite our reader who are in the RGV, to a luncheon Jan. 31st at Sun Palace Buffet (6103 N. 10th St, McAllen, TX)  Luncheon starts at 12 Noon (alcohol bar is available).  The luncheon is being hosted by Peggi and John McDonald of RV Living.  If you plan on attending please let Peggi know at mailto:info@rvliving.net or myself at mailto:info@cruising-in-our-rv.net and I will let Peggi know that you will be attending.  It is an Explorer RV Club luncheon.  You don't have to be a member to attend the luncheon and you are welcome to bring friends.  Just let us know that we can let Sun Palace know how many to expect.  Peggi is expecting around 100 Canadians to attend.  Should be a fun afternoon.  It is a good way to meet fellow Snowbirders.

This is a photo of John and Peggi McDonald along with Doug when we went to Nuevo Progreso, Mexico on Dec. 23, 2007.  Peggi and John were kind enough to show us around.  We also enjoyed a real nice lunch at Garcia's.  It was a good day.  More walking then Doug enjoys, but he was a real trooper and hung in for the whole day.

The past few days, here in the valley has been cool and we have been inside most of the time.  It is warming up today so we are looking forward to being out and about.  Doug is waiting to go, so am going to get this posted and go and enjoy the Texas sun.

Have a good week everyone!
