July 1- 15, 2006

We didn't do much on the July  1st/4th long weekend.  The park was almost full and everyone seemed to be in a lazy mood.  We had a baseball team over in the tent section.  Other them a bit more traffic then usual, they were very quiet for teenage boys.  They lit fireworks every night that they were here.  One practice I wish that they wouldn't do, is holding the fireworks in their hand while it is exploding.  Very scary for us, but I guess they all survived their macho display, as there was no fast trip to the hospital, nor any ambulances screaming in to take care of the injury.  What are they thinking??

July 3rd we also watched a fireworks display over the St. Clair River, put on from the Marine City, MI side.  We had a front row seat through the windshield of the motorhome.  We didn't have to sit out and let the bugs bite or anything.  We just sat back, with the lights off and watched the show.   It wasn't anything compared to the Mt. Rushmore display, but it was quite nice and you couldn't beat the seating- front row and very comfortable.

This has turned into a very lazy, but fun week.  We went on a cruise on the DUC D’ORLEANS II  CRUISE SHIP  (1 519 337 5152 for reservations).  Every year several seasonal couples go on this cruise.  Last year we were lucky enough to go on a WWII sub-chaser.  This year they have upgraded to a new cruiser

We had a nice size group for the cruise this year.  Seventeen of us from Branton Cundick went along for the cruise and there was also two others that I had invited to join in the fun.  Peggy and John from www.rvliving.net came along and enjoyed the trip also.  We were very happy that Peggy and John could join us and we hope that we can share other visits with them soon.

going from left to right is myself, Doug, John and Peggy with the Sarnia riverside park in the background.

We had a great buffet lunch of cold cuts, salads, cut vegetables and and fruit.  It is so relaxing to cruise down the river and enjoy a great lunch.  The cost is very reasonable ($18.00 CDN/person-summer of 2006).

We later learned that Doug's sister Marg is in a London, Ontario hospital having eye surgery.  She should be home by Friday.  She is doing fine, just had to limit her movements for a few days.

We drove to Blenheim and checked on how Marg was doing on Friday.  She had walked uptown (about 4 or 5 blocks) for her morning coffee and breakfast.  She doesn't stay home much.  She has to wear the real dark sun glasses for awhile.  We hope she doesn't fall over something, but we know better then to suggest that she limit her travels 8>]

After we made sure she was okay, we stopped and to visit friends Betty and Bud.  They have the new ramp now installed for the wheel chair that Bud now finds it necessary to use.  Bud was always a very active person so it is difficult for him and all of his friends, but he still welcomes everyone with a big smile.  We always enjoy our visits with them.  We just have to remember that he tires very quickly and we have to limit the length of time of our visit to less then an hour.  We don't want to wear him out.

We came back to the St. Clair river and enjoyed the weekend.  This coming week is a work week for me.  Doug has an appointment to have his eyes checked on Wednesday, July 12th and we have an appointment with a new medical clinic.  Hopefully, we will have a new Doctor by the weekend.  It really seems strange to be interviewed by a Doctor.  I can remember when we had the choice what Doctor to go to.

We went to our appointments.  Doug's eye prescription was for bifocals.  He only has a .25 correction for distance and 2.5 for reading in both eyes now.  What a difference.

We were also accepted by the new medical clinic.  They seem to be a great team and we hope to be with them until we no longer need doctors.  They are a young team so all should be fine.  They scheduled us for physicals on Aug. 17th.  I hope that we both pass the exam 8}.  We don't want anything to get in the way of us going south this winter.  We also want to wish Dr. Thomson a very happy and long retirement.  He loves to play golf, so we hope that he gets to enjoy playing all this winter and and many winters to come.

The rest of the week was quiet.  I just kept my nose to the grindstone.  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Today is Friday and I don't work again until Aug. 3rd and 4th for Henny, then I am back downstairs for the next week, but I am getting ahead of myself.
