Our blog was getting behind, so have decided to do a catch-up blog to bring it up to date. July is flying by. Working seems to make the days go faster, not while I am at work, but in looking back on those days. Where did the time go? I don't know how I had time to work, on average of 60 hours a week, back in those dark days before retirement 8-) . We left here every morning at 8 a.m. by the latest. Some mornings were earlier. Doug went into Chatham with me a couple of days. It is a long day for him because he drops me off at work then goes and visits his buddies (if they are home). There are usually enough of them around to visit to pass the day away. At five o'clock he comes back to the office to pick me up. It is usually 6 p.m. by the time we get back to the campground. A very long day when we are not used to them any more. While I am thinking about it here is a great link for anyone looking for some workcamping positions. What better employer then Uncle Sam and the Park system? Here is the link in case you have to type it in: http://www.volunteer.gov/gov/ It is good to work PT like this. I keep current on changes in the legal system and also have a good visit with the girls in the office. I look at it as being paid for being entertained for the day 8-). The week of July 9-15th was gone in a flash. We were lucky enough to have dinner with my brother Terry and sister-in-law Shirley from Haliburton. We always enjoy our visits with them. We don't get to see them very often as they live a good 5 hour drive from here. When we do get together we have a good chat and the rest of the time we stay connected by telephone and email. Nice seeing you both again and hope to see you again, along with your new home, before we take off this fall. Saturday, the 14th was catch-up on housework day. Lots to do inside the coach to catch up on the vacuuming and cleaning chores. I was tired at the end of my 10+ hour days away, so didn't do much on work days. Doug had washed the coach on one of the days he had stayed home. It is a big job washing the coach by himself. I usually help, but was happy to miss my share of the work this time. Doug had doctor appointments on Monday and Tuesday - July 18th and 19th. He found out he is having hand surgery Sept. 5th to release the tension on the tendons of his right hand. Tuesday was a visit to our primary care Doctor for medication refills. Wednesday we had a rest day and then Thursday we had to be in town early for my yearly blood test to check on cholesterol and how my blood sugars are. Hopefully, all are the same as usual - within the acceptable range with no medication. Hard to tell though, as I am creeping closer to that 60 mark. In November of 2006, I decided it was time to give my diet an overhaul and have been eating a lot healthier every since. The last time I had a chocolate bar was the first part of November of 2006 and the funny thing is I don't miss them. I have tried a couple of french fries and a few other things like that without even enjoying the taste of them anymore. I guess the taste buds have made the adjustment from junk/over processed food to healthy unprocessed food. Given the choice between a salad and a hamburger, I would take the salad every time. Thursday was also my annual mammogram day. I consider it a necessary evil. Don't like them, but it has to be done. Every woman over the age of 50 should do themselves a favour once a year and take that annual mammogram. Your life might depend on it. Friday was another work day. I was doing something completely different today, so it was an interesting day. I need a bit more practice on this end of the office work, but I was getting the hang of it by end of day. My next work day is in August. I have about 15 days more work this year and then I am finished until next year. It is a hard life working less then 30 days a year 8-) Saturday we were invited to a Jack and Jill shower for our niece and nephew Dawn and Don. They are expecting their first child in Sept. Talk about excited! They will make great parents. We left here Saturday morning and stopped in Blenheim at the Autopro shop to pick up some parts for Jody. Next stop was Chatham and the laudrymat. It was close to 1 o'clock when we finished the laundry. The shower started at 2. We made a quick stop at the Hotdog stand in the Canadian Tire parking lot. Doug says they are the best hotdogs around. I don't know because I have never tried one. However, I did have one of their sausages and they are really good also. We finished just in time to leave Chatham and head on over to the Jack and Jill Shower. The shower was a huge success. Everyone had a great time. We left just before the b-b-que. We wanted to drive on to Tilbury and be there before Jody and Rachael left. We hadn't phoned, so were hoping that they would be home. They were both home and we gave them the jeep parts. We didn't stay long, as they were getting ready to go to a b-b-que. Seems like everyone is having a b-b-que party right now. We headed back to the bay and our park. We made a quick stop at Sobey's in Blenheim on the way home. We had a very busy day, so had supper and then just sat back for some relax time. Another busy week was behind us. Sunday morning is always bacon and egg time. After breakfast and clean up, it was time for me to catch up on our website and this blog. It is a beautiful day. Not to hot, not to cold and not windy. As Goldylocks would say "Just right". We hope we have lots more days like this. I forgot to take the camera with me for the Jack and Jill Shower, so I will close this off with another photo from our archives. This was taken from Skyline Park overlooking Haliburton, Ontario, in the fall of 2004. Beautiful fall colors.
See you next week............
