March 25 - Today started out cool, but warmed up quickly. We are in the 80's today. Since it is Sunday, it is bacon and egg day. The bacon was cooked, the coffee made and the eggs turned to perfection. We really enjooy our Sunday morning breakfast. We went for a walk around the park and Doug had a look at where the propane refill tank was. We have decided to fill our propane tank at the Oasis Truck Stop. It will be easier to get to, then the one here at this park. We also looked at the route we will take, leaving the park. We are in the only back in site on this street, and we are on the wrong angle to go in the normal direction of the street. All the corners in this park are far from being big rig friendly. We are hoping that we can drive through a couple of the pull-thru sites to leave this section of the park. If no one comes in, we will be able to do just that. We will also have to watch many low branches. People across from us ripped the awning over their slideouts coming in. It is a brand new fifth wheel and they are not happy. We don't want to repeat that preformance. Tomorrow we start getting ready to leave. We will do some shopping for the trip north and a couple of other things. Another good winter is coming to an end. See you next week! Thanks for dropping by! March 24 - It has been several days since I have posted so I thought that I had better get this weeks post uploaded. The days seem to just slip away, without notice. We took a drive back to Florida for lunch today. We have never drove into Pensacola and thought it was time that we did. We drove around in the city for awhile and then stopped at the Golden Corral on Laughlin Ave. The food was good, the lettuce on the salad bar was nice and crisp and the service was excellent. This has to be the best Golden Corral we have ate at this winter. After lunch, we continued south on CR-289 until we turned onto US-90. We traveled west on US-90 until we reached CR-83 and CR-64 north. We arrived back at Styx River Resort about mid afternoon. It was a nice drive, with lots of new sites along the way. We have only four more nights here and then we start our trip north. It has been a real good winter weather wise. We haven't filled our propane tank for our furnaces, since the middle of December of 2006. We have avoided the cold, cold weather all winter. We hope that we don't run into it when we get home. Time will tell. March 23 - The days are slipping away. We will soon be on our way north. We have decided to skip our stay at Diamond Cave Campground just north of Park City, Kentucky. We are going to go straight north, a few hundred miles a day. We will then stop at Lakeshore, Davison, Michigan. It is an American Campground park and one of our brother Home Parks. We will stay there about 12 days before continuing our trip home to Ontario. We always go and visit our cousin's Pat and Charlie in Auburn while we are in the area. We are looking forward to our visit with them. March 22 - We are going to a liquidation store on SR-59 S just north of I-10. We like visiting this store, because we always find something different. There is a lot of junk in the store, but one man's junk is another man's treasure. The treasures I found were 150 sheets of card stock for $3.00, a steno pad for $0.50 and a combinations flashlight (blue bulb), fine black pen and laser light with batteries for $1.00. The bargains of the century. Doug didn't find anything he couldn't live without. Very unusual for him, but today it was my turn to find something. We also made note of the gas prices at the stations at this exit from I-10. This is the route we will take, when we start north on March 28th. March 21 - Spring is here, even the calendar says it is. The thermometer shows that it is more like our summer temps. We just hung around the coach and enjoyed a day of just being alive. What better thing to do, on the first day of spring. March 20th- For some reason, I have not been going on my morning walks. I miss them, so this morning I took the camera and went for my walk. As I mentioned yesterday, there are lots of shrubs and trees blooming. Just outside our door is a very pretty tree in bloom. I don't know what type of tree it is, but it looks like cherry tree blooms.
I took a walk down to the Styx River. We could not get down to the river in the spring of 2004 because of hurricane damage. This year the walkway was clear.
Once down at the river, there wasn't much to see, but the pretty Styx River flowing quickly by. The river is very shallow right now and you can see the sandy bottom. In fact you can see a large area of the bottom. Usually a river like this, would be teeming with life. The only thing I saw in this river were a couple of dead leaves floating by.
Doesn't it look like we should just take a run and jump right into the river to cool off, on a hot summer day? The light colors is the sand on the bottom of the river. I don't know where all the fish are today, but they are not in this section of the river.
On the way back up from the river, I noticed what looked to be wild strawberry blooms. There were lots of them, but this is the photo that turned out the best.
There were more blooms that were waiting for my camera, so I headed back up from the river.
This is the entrance to Styx River Resort. The whole entrance is lined with flowers.
This is one flower that I can smell and not loose my breath. They smell so sweet. I am happy that they are not affecting my allergies. Usually when I am around flowers I loose my breath, whether I am indoors or out, but not this time. This time I can enjoy seeing them close up. It was a beautiful morning for a walk and the sites I did see.
March 19- Spring has arrived at Styx River. Everything is in bloom and beautiful. Tomorrow I will take photos of all the spring blooms. Today we are going to Foley to the Wal*Mart store and also Robertsdale to the Win-Dixie grocery store. One thing about being a full-time RV'er is we seem to go grocery shopping more often. Our fridge does not have as much storage in either the freezer or fridge, so we buy half as much, twice as often.
