May 14-20, 2007

We have had another busy week.  The  week started off with a Doctor's appointment in Chatham for Doug, then more blood test.  There shouldn't be many more blood test.  I don't know how much more blood he has to share.  Hopefully they are close to finding out all that they want to know.  There will be medication changes in his future, which will make the difference we hope.

Tuesday we were in Windsor by 9 a.m.  Doug was scheduled for a laser treatment on his right eye at Hotel Dieu Hospital.  We have been there several times before, so we had no problem locating it.  We had just over an hours drive to get there on time.

The nurse put drops in his eye, shortly after we arrived and then we waited.  We didn't wait long though and soon the treatment was finished, there was a patch over his right eye, and we were on our way home.  We stopped for an early lunch and we also stopped again in Tilbury to pick up our mail.  The rest of the day was very quiet.  Doug's eye needs time to heal after the treatment.

The rest of the week was taken up with laundry and sorting through our storage trailer.  We are going to have a yard sale to eliminate many items that we no longer need.  That will also take some of the weight from our smaller trailer (12ft x 6ft).  At present, it is packed to the ceiling and we need to reduce the weight, before we put it back in the storage shed.  It is a very long, frustrating process.  What Doug  thinks is junk is my treasure and vice versa.  Doug still has enough tools to open his own commercial garage.  He wants to keep all of the tools, even though he will probably never use them.  They are at least 75% of the weight in the trailer.  Hopefully, we can reduce some of the weight and bulk in the upcoming days.

Friday morning we  went into Blenheim and shared a coffee break with our niece Debbie V.  We always enjoy our chats with Deb.  We caught up on various family happenings, before we left for home.

Saturday we were once again in the car early.  This time we were on our way to Thedford, to see our cousin Russell.  He had major medical work last year, so we are looking forward to seeing how he is doing today.  Russell is 80 years young and still very active.  We always enjoy our visits with him.

Russell was at the local coffee shop (right where we thought he would be on a Saturday morning).  He was having a good chat with other members of the Thedford community.  We pulled up a chair around the large table and joined in the conversation.  It is a nice feeling to be able to walk in and join the town Fathers on a Saturday morning, in small town Ontario.  We covered all the currant topics of news as numerous residents came and went.

Soon it was time for us to leave.  We said that we would be back this fall and away we went.  The next stop on our journey was Parkhill.  We were going there to do a little bit of genealogy research.  We were looking for Doug's Great Grandparents on his Mother's side.  They have been illusive, but sooner or later we will find them.  Today was not to be the day though.  After we left Parkhill we  detoured through Strathroy, for more research.  We found very little new information in the short time we stayed there.  My allergies said it was time to leave.  The older I get, the more the ink in the print, and dust in libraries bothers my eyes and breathing.  Libraries are one of my most favorite places, so it is difficult to balance my allergies with my desire to research.  Thankfully, I can do much of my research online, through sites such as Ancestry.com.  If you enjoy genealogy and would like to check out Ancestry.com, you can do so by going to my genealogy page, where you will find a two week free membership with Ancestry.com.  They are adding new info all the time and I find it so easy to find ancestors, including census records, birth, marriage and death certificates.

Final stop, for the day,  before home was in Ridgetown at the local grocery store, to restock the refrigerator and cupboard.     We have very little room in our refrigerator or pantry, so everytime we go someplace, we ususally stop at a grocery store on the way home.

Saturday had been another enjoyable day.  We relaxed after an early dinner and were in bed early, to make up for the early morning drive.  We do have a television in our bedroom.  It is easy to program an evening of television viewing on our Bell Expressvu, then go to bed.  All the channels change on que by our Bell Expressvu receiver.  Nice!

Today - Sunday - we had planned on sorting more items in our storage trailer.  It just never happened.  The wind was blowing strong from Rondeau Bay and we did not want to be chasing items all over the campground.  So it has turned into a lazy day.  This life is like that.  Plans change without worry or rush.  After all, there is always tomorrow.

See you next week!
