Nov. 20-26, 2006 Nov. 26- Today was a long day, but enjoyable. We drove down to Orange City to see friends Peggi and John of http://www.RVLiving.net. John has been under the weather and in the hospital for a few days, he is now home to finish his recovery and get his strength back. We drove down and arrived around 10:30 a.m. We had a nice chat and went to Perkins in Orange City for lunch. We had drove there by going east on I-10 then south on I-74 to SR-40 east and US-17 south to Orange City. We came back the same way until we reached I-75 north. The traffic was moving north very slowly. Everyone was returning home from their weekend away. We decided to stay on SR-40/27 and return that way. It was a good decision because traffic was light and moving right along. We were back home ourselves by 5:30 p.m. Everyone had left. There must have been a steady stream of units leaving here yesterday. The park had only about 20% occupancy. It is a very large park so there are still a hundred or more units here. Doug was out washing windows early this morning. We will be leaving here on Wednesday and he wanted to get everything cleaned up before then. We will put the bikes back on the rack on Tuesday and stow my satellite dish. We won't be putting the satellite dish up again until we are in Fort Myers. We are both looking forward to spending the month of December in Fort Myers. Friends we met last year in Texas e-mailed and said they would be at one park we are going to be at, on our way to Fort Myers. We are looking forward to seeing them again. Tomorrow is get everything put away so we can move day. There isn't much to put away. We have everything arranged so that we could be on the road in less then 30 minutes, if we needed to be. Everything has its place and we put it back after use. That way we don't have the clutter or the problem of figuring out where to put it while we are traveling. The weather is fantastic. The furnace didn't come on last night until the small hours. Soon it will probably not have to work at night at all or at the most a few times a night. We are looking forward to that. See you next week. Nov. 25 - We had a nice Thanksgiving. All the people here at Spirit of the Suwannee also had a very fun weekend. We enjoyed a large parade through the windshield of our coach last night. There were at least 200 golf carts all decorated for Christmas in the parade. Several horses and their riders followed the golf carts and Santa was the Grand Finish of the parade. Lots of fun for everyone. I tried to get some photos, but it was very dark and I only captured the blur of colored lights as they drove by.
By the time the horses went by, they needed headlights. I would have loved to get some photos of them, because there riders had decorated the horses. Some had reindeer horns. I didn't want to get close enough for the flash to work. I know how spooked a horse can get. There was a Gospel and Blue Grass Concert at the Music Hall after the parade. It has been a very busy weekend around here. Today we went for a walk and checked out the Farm Days here. There were some vendors with different old time crafts and there were also a couple of guys giving people rides in a wagon pulled by two beautiful black light draft horses and also a Bay horse pulling a democrat. (if I remember right)
Lots of people have brought their own saddle horses to the park for the weekend. They have their own section near the stables. Some of the horse trailers are a combination house/horse trailer. This park is 600 acres and has something for everyone. You can even take a canoe trip down the Suwannee River and never leave the park. What a place.
Tonight the park is all lit up with 5,000,000 lights. What a sight. I think we will take a drive to enjoy them.
Nov. 23 - We hope all our American family, friends, and readers have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Nov. 21 - Woke up to frost on the car AGAIN! Something is wrong with this picture. It isn't supposed to get frosty in November this far south. Where is the warming influence from the Gulf of Mexico? We are leaving for Florida tomorrow. I don't know if I will be able to get a signal at Spirit of the Suwannee. There are lots of trees there. I have some photos to post of this park, but will do it later when I am on my own connection. You can see the photos of Styxs River Resort here We took the back way to Robertsdale to pick up the loaf of bread and the bagels, that didn't get to the car yesterday. I took a wrong turn and ended up in Florida. It isn't far away at all. I got turned around and was back were I made the wrong turn. It didn't take very long to get to Robertsdale once I got my east and west sorted out. There was no problem getting the loaf of bread and bagels. Customer service said to go get it, bring it back and away I went. We did get a photo of a real neat 1950's Chev pick-up that has been customized. It will be posted to Doug's page when I am on my own connection also. It is now on What is Doug doing 6? We are ready to leave in first thing in the morning. Doug put the stone guard on the car, emptied the holding tanks and disconnected the water and sewer. We just have to disconnected electric in the morning, leave here, hook up outside the park, fill up with fuel up on Wilcox Rd. and we are on our way to Florida. We have 300 miles of interstate tomorrow. Should be an easy day. Next post in Florida. See you there. Nov. 20 - The furnace ran more then it was off last night. When we got up, we realized why. The car was white with a heavy frost. It is time for us to move further south. Today we are going for more groceries. We shop about twice a week for groceries because we don't have much room to store them. The freezer is still full of Doug's Schnieders Red Hot wieners. The bottom part of the fridge fills up quickly with milk, pop, salad dressing, eggs, greens for salads. We have found that shopping twice a week is preferred to an over stuffed fridge. We have a little battery operated fan in the fridge, but it still needs room to keep the cool air flowing, so we buy half as much, twice as often. 8) We drove to Robertsdale. There is a Win Dixie there that is quite nice. I really have to be careful or I end up buying to much for our limited space. Today was no exception. They had several products on sale at 10 for ? There is not way that we have room to store 10 of a multitude of items. What a challenge it was, not to buy the sales in bulk. We had a Hardy's lunch. Good for our cholesterol. I did try their Southwest chicken salad. It was okay, but not good for me. I need a fire extinguisher to put the fire out in my mouth and stomach. After putting all of the groceries away, I realized that we did not have the bagels or bread which I had purchased. We will have to decide if it is worth driving about 16 miles each way to go get the bread and bagels or not. Probably not. Tomorrow is laundry day and then we will be ready to move on to our next stop. We hope that it is warmer. The weather here is like early October fall days in our home area. We need warmer weather - soon, we will have it real soon. 8)
