Nov. 20, 2006 -    America!

It has been a beautiful day in the neighborhood.  We were able to move onto the front row at our campground and Doug now has his TV satellite and I have my internet satellite.

We received a nice e-mail from my cousin today and they are considering the full-time lifestyle.  We wish them luck and happy trails.

Yesterday was a long day.  We traveled I-10 east the whole way.  It was only 300 miles, but the traffic was fairly heavy yesterday.  A lot of people we enjoying an extended long holiday weekend.  We arrived to a very busy campground.  There were trailers, 5th wheels, motorhomes, golf carts, bicycles and people going in all directions.  The site they assigned was for a class B or a tent trailer only.  We were not in the mood to shuffle through the available sites.  The second site was in the inner circle with numerous vehicles and units jutting out in every direction possible.  We had unhitched the car and it was my decision whether we could get to that site or not.  It was a big NOT!  Back to the office and we were re-assigned to a no sewer hook-up.  We couldn't get satellite and were faced into the woods with a bunch of cabins in-between us and the woods.  The guy behind us left and I was at the office at 8 this morning.  They said sure, no problem.  We turned around and pulled through to the front site.  The TV satellite was up and locked on at 100 % in seconds.  My Satellite internet took longer.  The satellite couldn't find us, so we couldn't get locked on.  Finally, after reading the set-up book again, I ran the Point 4020 program and we were connected, all systems go within minutes of running the program.  It would have been a long week without the net, if I hadn't been able to get this set up.  Patience does pay off.

Several businesses are having their Black Friday Sales.  Check them out.  You might find a bargain of a life time.  These sales are only available online.

Darkness is falling and the woods are lighting up with the flicker of campfires.  Everyone is in a holiday mood and the whole place is humming.  Usually we don't like being in the middle of so much activity, but there is such a fun bunch here, we are enjoying every moment of it.  Tomorrow we might just check out some of the Black Friday sales ourselves and get into the Christmas mood.

Nov. 19, 2006 - It was a bacon and egg morning.  We always have a larger breakfast on Sundays.

The weather stayed in the 50s and low 60s all day.  We didn't have anything planned, so basically it was a TV day for Doug and family research on the net for me.  My Ancestry membership has allowed me to find many family members, including copies of the birth, marriage and death certificates, right online.

The campground is very quiet.  There isn't many people moving around.  Everyone must have the same idea today, to just be couch potatoes today.  What a tough life.

Nov. 18, 2006 - Another ho-hum day.  There was supposed to be a fleamarket up at the clubhouse, but there was only two vendors and nothing we needed.  More money saved.

We stopped and had a coffee at the restaurant and checked out their menu.  It was still a little cool, so we came back to the coach.

I did more Family Tree research from Ancestry.com info.  You can get a free two week trial, if you are interested through my Genealogy page.   I have found so many source documents (birth, marriage and death certificates).  Sure does save a lot of driving miles and hours of research.  Everything in indexed, so the info is easy to find.

Doug did a bit of work on the coach.  The exhaust system needed some new clamps.  We had bought them yesterday, while we were out.

Somehow my right border disappeared from this site.  I don't know what happened, but I am working on resolving the problem.  Hopefully it won't be much longer.

This side of the park is nearly vacant.  There are more empty sites then "in use" ones.  The other side is nearly full.  I think they are for the home park members.  We move on to Spirit of the Suwannee on Wednesday.  We are looking forward to being further south where the weather is more like our summers.

Nov. 16, 2006 - We survived the bad weather.  It wasn't all that bad after all, compared to other areas of the country.  North Carolina had major damage and loss of lives.  Our best wishes goes out to the people affected by the devastation.

We took a drive up to Bay Minette.  We followed CR-64 north to SR-112 west to US-31 south.  Our mission was to find the Wal*Mart store in Bay Minette.  We did find the store and they didn't have the size we wanted.  We were looking for a quart of Dexron III.  They had a gallon of it and Doug didn't buy it, because he didn't want a gallon.  The price was right, just it was to big.

We returned to the park by going south on US-31 south, US-59 south and then I-10 east.  It was a nice drive.  Interesting.  We like getting onto the county roads and seeing life off of the interstate.

The rest of the day was taken up with lunch, cleaning, and supper.  That is about it for today.

Nov. 15, 2006 - Yesterday we went to Loxley, AL for a drive and also for groceries.  Doug was into his emergency supply of Diet Coke and we didn't want to use it all up without replacing it.  We also wanted to get out of the coach for a few hours.  On the way back we stopped at Hardy's for lunch.  Doug likes the 1/3 lb cheeseburgers.  I had the Taco salad.  I had ordered a Southwest Chicken salad but got the Taco salad.  They only have one salad at a time and it was my misfortune to order just as the salads were being changed.  The taco salad was good, so no complaints.

The furnaces didn't come on all night.  We woke up this morning and it was like warm milk outside.  I had been aching all night, so knew that rain was coming.  After a rosey sunrise the rain came and it is still raining.  Sometimes it is just a gentle rain and at others it is a pounding rain.  We just hope that the river doesn't flood again.  We were going to go for another drive today, but don't think we will in case the river does flood and we can't get back to the campground.  You can read about the last time we were here and the river flooding here.

This is what Weatherbug is showing us

Here we go again.  Every time we come to this resort this seems to happen.  Makes you wonder if someone is trying to tell us something.  We are in the second alert that says flash flood warnings.  We are down in a bit of a hollow, but at the same time well above the river, so hopefully we will come through it all okay.

My satellite internet has still not found the satellite through the trees.  The resort has a dial-up in the clubhouse and a very erratic wireless.  We are going to try and upload the webpage using the resort wireless connection.  If we don't get the satellite internet locked on through the trees it is difficult to say when I will get this updated the next time.  Till then, I will keep updating and upload when I get a connection.

Doug decided that it was best that we put our satellite internet away, where it is safe away from the storm.  We went out between showers, dried it off and stored it away.  Now we don't have to worry about it blowing away or over.  I sure don't want to have to replace the radio arm.

Nov. 13 - We arrived before lunch along with two other units.  We had the front entrance plugged for a few minutes until they assigned us to our sites.  We were here one and one half years ago in March and the park hasn't changed much in that time.

We settled into our site and I had the satellite for the TV tuned in before we had lunch.  By then Doug had the coach plumbing all hooked up (water & sewer).

We had lunch and showers and enjoyed being back in shorts weather.  This is the kind of weather I enjoy.  Tomorrow will be soon enough to do our running around, seeking adventure routine.
