Nov. 12 - We left Mountain Lakes Resort a day early to take advantage of the lighter traffic early Sunday morning. We had found an easier route out by going SR-231 to C-400 and then SR-75 south to I-59 south, I-459 south to I-65 south. We found this route much more big rig friendly then up through SR-231 and the State Park. Those roads were meant for a lot smaller mode of travel then these big rigs. We made good time. There was very little traffic on the road and we stopped just south of Montgomery, AL at The Woods RV Park and Campground. It is a Passport America Park, phone 334-356-1887. It was very easy on and off of I-65. We plan on staying there on the way home in the spring. We continue our trip south tomorrow. Next stop Robertsdale, AL. Nov. 11 - Lest we forget
Today is Remembrance Day in Canada and Memorial Day in the United States a day to solute all that gave their lives and fought for our freedom. We salute all of brave men and women who put their lives on the line so that we can all live free. Let Freedom Reign. You will never be forgotten!
Nov. 8, 2006 - It has been a few days since I last posted. We haven't been doing much accept for hanging out around the park. Yesterday we went to Fort Payne. We left here and headed south on SR-227, then CR-400 to SR-75 North and then south on SR-35. We were looking for a Wal*Mart and we found one in Fort Payne. I had checked it out in our Wal*Mart atlas before we left. The last couple of days has been a bit stormy. There has been some strong wind gust and showers day and night, off and on. This is a nice park, but I think we are leaving a day early to take advantage of the logging trucks not being on the roads Sunday. When you get a big transport truck loaded with logs on the same square of pavement as this coach pulling the car, you don't have much room between the mirrors when we meet. One slip and a mirror is gone along with $1,000 or more to replace them. Before we left Rock Glen, Arkona, Ontario we noticed the Robins flocking for a flight to warmer weather. Yesterday when we looked out our window, we saw several dozen Robins all scampering to find a meal in the grass. Could it be the same Robins we saw in Arkona? We will never know but they looked to be the same several dozen. Today, the weather is still gray. Hopefully, we will see the sun at some point today. The next couple of days will be busy also as I do laundry and several other routine choirs. The next post will probably be from Styx River. See you then. We have moved on, but I wanted to keep these photos with this entry. We went to Scottsboro and the Unclaimed Baggage Store. It was an interesting experience. The Store is like a giant, sometimes overpriced, garage sale. You never know what you will find, as the merchandise is refreshed daily. We found the prices to be little different then what you would pay in the big box stores for new merchandise. We enjoyed our visit. We didn't find anything that we couldn't live without. If we ever go back, we might find something then. We really don't need anything right now, so didn't get into seriously looking for anything. The parking lot was full and there were lots of people there to buy the treasure that they found. I think that you would have to be in a Saturday morning yard sale seeking mode to really enjoy the experience. There were many treasures for the right people. We had to have a sunset photo and here is a couple we really liked.
This is one of a squirrel enjoying a donut in the tree. It was getting dark and he was well up in the tree but if you look hard enough, you will see him sitting on the branch (look for the glow from his eye. He has the donut up on its edge and he was busily rotating/rolling it in his paws, as he chewed his way all the way around the outside, working to the inside. I wish he had showed up better. He was sure enjoying that donut he had probably found in the near by garbage bin.
