Oct. 14 - Today is a nicer day then yesterday. The wind blew and we are sure that there was icicles in the air. We stayed inside where we are nice and warm. Today the tree branches are bare. All the beautiful gold and red leaves are blown to who knows where. The wind stripped 90% of the leaves form the trees. the bare trees makes it look even colder, as you look outside. It is time to leave. We went to Thedford today to meet our cousin Russell Burch. We were at his usual coffee shop (about the only one in town) shortly after 8 a.m. He came in and was very surprised and happy to see us. We always enjoy our chats with Russell. He is having a few medical problems right now, but his spirits are great. We have met several other residents of Thedford and discussed members of our Family Tree by meeting Russell a few times a year at the coffee shop. Everyone is very friendly in Thedford. it is a small village atmosphere where everyone knows everybody and people are starting to remember us. It is a nice feeling. I have been working hard putting together many links for
e-commerce. We have a great line up of Affiliates including Amazon,
Campers WorldBooks,
Every Day Low Prices at Wal-Mart Oct. 12 - It is coooooold today! We would like to leave now, but Doug's Doctor appointment comes first. We left here early this morning. We had the oil changed in the
car. Here is a new truck that Navistar is making. It is a
mid-size. Looks like it would do a great job pulling a 5th wheel
trailer. This is also the plant that Doug retired from. Went to the bank and got some cash, went to the Drug Store to pick up our medication for the winter - Oh, O - problem - Our doctor's office had not called in the prescription until today and the Drug Store does not have enough medication in stock to fill the large orders that Doug requires for the winter. We have to go all the way back to Chatham on Tuesday. We left the drug store and went to Canadian Tire to see if our air filter for the car is in - no, it isn't, and they can't even find the special order. What a place. We went on out to the Dollar Store and it is snowing. What is with this? It is only Oct. 12! Back into Chatham for another bank appointment with a financial advisor at 2 p.m. I was early, but he said that was fine. Took care of that. This Financial Advisor seems to know what he is talking about and I felt like we were on the same page. The money we have invested has to work for us, no slackers allowed. The first part of this year all had been well, but the last half hasn't been good. This looks like it will provide an even return over the whole year. We left there and back out to Wal*mart. Seems like we are running the length of Chatham back and forth several times today. Doug went to the Auto Repair Dept. while I went to buy some milk and a few other things. I picked up the milk and sugar reduced Smuckers Strawberry jam and was on my way to the Auto Dept. when Doug appeared. Then the the lights flickered out. The emergency lights came on and the Wal*mart staff went into action, herding everyone to the front of the store, before the emergency lights failed. We were all standing at the check-outs and the lights came back on. Doug headed back to get the car and I continued on through the check-out. Next I called my sister-in-law Shirley to see how Connie, my sister was doing. She had her big operation yesterday and Shirley had called last night to say that she was okay. We are in a no cell area this week, so I called from the pay phone using my calling card to get more details as to how Connie is doing. She will be in hospital a couple more days, but all is looking real good. Thank-you - my prayers were answered. Next, I called Coast to Coast to find out why I could not make my reservations online for Okeechobee Landing in Clewiston, Florida. I don't know what the problem with the online booking was, but she made my reservation and gave me a confirmation number in no time. Yah! I had been worried I wouldn't get the reservation. Doug and I located each other again and went to the car. Next stop was to pick up our previous neighbor Art. He is a very spry 90 with a fantastic attitude. We enjoy having a fish and chip dinner with him each spring and fall at Lil Julies in Chatham. After dinner we delivered him back home to Louisville, ON and were on our way back here to Rock Glen in Arkona. It started to snow again. Soon it was snowing so hard we had trouble seeing the road. I am glad we are coming back in the day light. Driving into the snow with headlights is not fun. Soon we were back at the coach. We hadn't left the furnaces on. It was 4 deg. C. or 38 deg. F. I flipped on both furnaces and everything was toasty warm in no time. What do you think of this?
Oct. 11 - Today I have to get the laundry done. I have a mountain of it to do after our busy weekend. I love cooking, but I have a habit of wearing my work. Now I have to get tomato and other hard to remove items of food from my T-shirts. Doug wore his cover-alls in the garage, so he faired better then I did.
I sorted the laundry - WHAT! 5 LOADS - YUK! Oh well, I will get it done. Went to the first laundry at the end of the road we are on and it was open, but no attendant and I needed loonies ($1Canadian coin). I learned that no one was there after I had carried the laundry in. There are three businesses in the one building, so I wasn't concerned when no one was in the laundry. I loaded the laundry back into the car and went on into Arkona to the other laundry. Dragged all five loads out of the car after getting the required change. A couple of hours later and we are all clean again. Back at the coach I was able to get all the laundry put away and then had a much deserved hot cup of tea. AH! that is good after a hard day of work.8) It is supposed to snow tomorrow. We hope not. We only like seeing snow on the TV as we sit in our shorts well south of the snow line. Tomorrow will come soon enough. Oct 10 - We were up early as usual, and on our way into Chatham. Lots to do today. First stop was at our Medical Clinic. We both went in at the same time and gave Jon Anne our list of required medication for the winter. She will review it with the good doctor and then call it into our pharmacy for pick-up on Thursday. Our next stop was at the pharmacy to sign a form to let the drug plan provider know that we are getting the extra medication because we will be away for six months. Next stop was at the Royal Bank for a financial advisory meeting and then on to the office to say "Merry Christmas" to the girls - they all called "Shut up" at the same time 8) What can I say! We also made a stop at our our bank and did some transfers for our US funds. Lots to organize for a winter away. Then we were back to Tilbury to hook the car up to the coach and away we go. Next stop was at our old neighbors home to deliver some cabbage rolls. It is an annual tradition to give him cabbage rolls. We are meeting him on Thursday for Fish and Chips before we leave this area-another tradition we have started with him. He was a real good neighbor and remains a good friend. Soon, we were pulling into Rock Glen in Arkona. This is where we will be for the next two weeks. I want to get some photos of all the great fall colors around here, before the rain takes them down. The dish isn't set up yet, so will post this tomorrow.
My sister Connie's operation was delayed until Oct. 11. Our hopes and prayers are with you Con, that the surgery will go well and be successful. Make every day count as you never know when it will be your last. Good night all! Oct. 9 - Doug and Jody were back in the garage to finish the repairs on Rachael and Jody's rock crawling jeep. I don't know why, but I didn't take any photos. I was real busy yesterday with cooking the large dinner but I should have taken some today. I did make a Turkey dumpling soup from some of the left over turkey. Jody has been in heaven these past few days feasting on Mom's cooking. Every GOOD son Loves his Mom's cooking 8) I am just lucky that Rachael doesn't mind me taken over her kitchen when we are around. I don't do it all of the time, but I knew that she was busy with her friends wedding and would be tired for a day or two after the wedding, so everything worked out just fine. The jeep is purring and everyone around this weekend put on 5 pounds. I can see extra walking in my future. We have been invited to a dinner at our niece Debbie's home in Blenheim. We accepted because we want to see as many family members as we can, before we start our trip south, and Debbie always puts on a great feast. She is a fantastic hostess. We won't be able to walk for the next week. We will make better time rolling, until we get all the extra food wore off. But, we love the fun and the food. Oct. 8 - We were up at our usual time of 6:30 a.m. - or I was, after Doug woke me up. I made the coffee and put the bacon on to cook. This is the only day of the week that we have a large breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. Once a week cleaning up the mess of cooking bacon is enough. We don't like the paper thin slices of microwave bacon. If it doesn't taste right, we don't want it. Shortly after we had breakfast, Jody was out and ready to start work in the garage on the jeep. Dad was here to help him put the heads on the motor. He wasn't to adverse to having a toasted bacon and egg sandwich that Mom was able to whip up for him in seconds either 8}. They went to the garage and I worked on the website, until Rachael woke up and I was able to go in the house and start making Thanksgiving dinner. First the pie shell for the lemon meringue pie and the pumpkin pie went in to be cooked. While they were cooking I prepared the dressing for the turkey, stuffed it and had it ready for the oven. The pies were finished minutes after the turkey was ready to go in. I switched them around and started on the squash and potatoes. I finally went and got my little cleaver from the coach. It made quick work of the thick shell on the squash. I had brought my own potato peeler in also and several pounds of potatoes were peeled and in the pot ready to cook, long before they were needed. It was a lot of fun getting everything ready and at the same time I got to use a full size kitchen and stove, and cook a nice supper for three of my favorite people (Doug, Jody and Rachael) and also Rachael's brother Arren and his fiance. Shortly after 5 p.m. everything was ready and the guys were in from the garage ready for a large dinner. Everyone ate more then they should. We all had a real fun day. Great conversation, before, during and after always keeps everything interesting.
