Oct. 21 - Our son Jody came to stay with us on Thursday night. It was real nice visiting with him. We enjoy the times that he goes out of his way to spend time with us. He is a very busy guy, but he will always be our son. We all enjoyed a dinner of ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, turnips and green beans. Doug had the green bean and Jody and I enjoyed the carrots and turnip. For desert I had baked my first cake in the coach oven. I thought that I was long past due. I didn't put the rack in right, so ended up with a lopsided cake. After the icing was on it, it didn't look to bad. It sure tasted good. It was a dark chocolate fudge with whipped chocolate icing. Didn't take long for it to disappear.
We went south to Windsor to see Dr. Toth. He said that the spot on Doug's arm was nothing to worry about and if I caught him touching the spot, except to put ointment on it, I was to make his wash the dishes. That works for me 8). We stopped in Leisure Trailer Sales on the way back, to see if they had a electronic board for our Atwood water heater. They did, but Doug hadn't brought the board with us, so that means we have to go back there on Monday. We could have went today, but we want to check the mail one last time before we leave and we can't do that until Monday. They do have 3 different boards in stock. I called today and they have the one we need. I was able to give them the part number today from the water heater. I should know by now, that I have to write the numbers down because some colors blend in and Doug can't see them. It would be easier on both of us, if I just did it, without expecting him to do so. I will learn one day. I hope it is soon. It would cut back on many wasted miles driven. I went for a walk this afternoon. It is the last time that I will be
able to enjoy the water falls here and also the fall colors. The leaves
are falling fast. Here are some shots that I took this afternoon. I
was waiting for the sun to come out, but it is not going to happen.
Oct Rock Glen is close to being empty. The trailers are being winterized. Soon we will be gone like the birds. Tomorrow afternoon we are stowing the satellite dish, so I will have no internet until we get to a WIFI area or we are in one spot long enough to set the dish up. We will be in Michigan or someplace further south, for the next post. See you then. 19th- Today is another blah day. There has been a light mist in the air off and on all day. Doug's doctor appointment is tomorrow in Windsor. I thought that it was Monday, but noticed the appointment in my Lotus day planner and thought that I had better call and confirm which day it actually was. It is tomorrow, so that means that we can leave anytime after tomorrow if we want to. We are meeting Russell for coffee on Saturday and Marg and Gord for breakfast in Ridgetown on Sunday, so the earliest we will leave is either Sunday afternoon or Monday. Probably Monday. Jody is supposed to be coming for supper. I baked a chocolate cake. I hadn't put the racks back in the oven properly. I didn't run the one clip under and the other over, so the cake pan at the back was very lopsided. The front one was only a small amount lopsided. After the icing was on it looked quite good. We are also having ham, mashed potatoes, carrots and turnip. I love turnip and carrot mashed together. Takes me back to my childhood. I haven't had carrots and turnips together for a very long time. Now, if Jody ever gets here, we can have a nice supper and visit. This will be the last one before we leave for the winter. Oct. 18th- We didn't get to Parkhill today like we planned. Our hot water heater decided it didn't want to fire, so Doug worked on it, instead of the family tree. We know that ancestors in the tree aren't going anywhere and we want to be able to have a hot shower. It was also necessary to call our medical office again and have them call in and prescription for medication that we did not receive, but will need right away. I thought that I had checked all of them, but had missed this one. It pays to check and double check, as we have no way to have a Canadian prescription filled in the USA. We will get it all sorted out before we leave. We were never able to get the hot water tank working. We think we need a new electronic board for it. Our son is coming here tomorrow to stay with us Thursday night. He is then going up to Perry Sound for one final rock climbing weekend with his buddies. Rachael is having a "girls weekend". Besides our lack of hot water nothing much happened. We contacted a local repair guy who thought that we should leave the key and he would get around to getting it repaired, after he had all the other units winterized. We don't leave the key with anyone. We learned that very expensive lesson back in Dec. of 2004. We do not like very expensive surprises. After we told him we were not interested in leaving the key and really needed hot water before Monday or whenever, he was no longer interested in repairing it and we weren't interested in him coming to work on it either. We will get it repaired real soon, but not by him. Oct.17- Woke up to more rain. All right already, we have had enough. We want sunshine, WE WANT SUNSHINE!!! I don't think I will get my wish, but at least I have asked. We went to Parkhill yesterday and did find the information that we were looking for. Parkhill was a very busy town at one time. Some grand old building still stand along the main street and also down the other main street? that meets at the four corners. I thought that I had taken some nice photos, but they didn't turn out very well. We are going back tomorrow to the library and will take some nice photos then. Today we went to Chatham, by way of Blenheim. We had coffee with Doug's sister Marg and brother-in-law Gord. We then left Blenheim and went to Chatham to pick up medication for the winter. We checked out the supply and Doug noticed that he didn't have any test strips. We called our Doctors office and the nurse said she would call the prescription in right away. We then went into Canadian Tire and picked up our air filter for the car. It was the right one. We now have a K&N air filter. Doug likes them because they improve our car performance and gas mileage. Plus it is the last air filter we will have to buy for the car. He will just get the cleaner and clean this one. We have one in the coach also. It improved our gas mileage by at least 2 miles to the gallon. Next we went to Wal*Mart to have our new tire torqued and we also had lunch with our niece. She is one of the department managers. This will be our last visit with her this year. We then went to Chatham Place Mall to check to see if Dr. Mastronardi was in, to have a look at Doug's right eye. It has been blurring at times and he doesn't know if it is allergies or maybe he has another problem with it. Thought it best to have it checked out before we leave. They were closed. Bummer. We then went back and picked up the test strips at the drug store. We had enough for the whole year. We were finished with all of the last minute stuff, so went to visit our friend Butch. We were going to supper with him and Margo. We were very early, but Doug and Butch always find lots to talk about. Margo walked in at 5 after a busy days work as a cashier at Wal*Mart. We left right away and went to Smitty's for supper. They have a nice seniors menu. Three of us ordered from it and Butch had his usual Steak and Shrimp. All four meals were very tasty. We left shortly after, for the one hour drive back to Arkona. One week today we will be in Lakeshore, Davison, Michigan. Look out Florida, we will be on our way , in a matter of days. Yahooooo!!! Oct. 15th - Another day of watching TV and all the people going by on the road in front of the campground. Lots of MG cars and Motorcycles along with an assortment of other vehicles and people walking for the exercise. We think that the small cars and motorcycles like this road because of the corners and hills. There is no other reason for them being on this sideroad, but for the enjoyment of it. We took the bicycle cover off and turned it over, put it back on over the bikes. We had put the cover on upside down and it kept filling with water every time it rains. Hopefully, the problem is now solved. I have been doing numerous changes on this site also. I hope that the changes will make it easier to find all of the different links. This site is becoming quite large and I wanted to make it easier to get around. We enjoy you visiting our site and want you to be able to find your way around all of it. Tomorrow we are doing some genealogy research in Parkhill, so I don't know if there will be a post or not. Hopefully we will get home in time to tell you about our day of research. We hope to find several people tomorrow. Wish us luck!
