October, 2005 Oct 1st and still lots to do. Our social calendar is heating up with everyone wanting to say "have a rotten winter in the sun". ;} What can I say. If they lived this way, they could be moving their home to warmer climates for the winter also. We went to The Rovers in Wallaceburg on Oct. 7th and had a nice fish dinner with our previous neighbor in Louisville, Ontario. He is 80 but you would never know it. Art is a one of a kind. He can do everything from making jam to making his own deer skin frontier outfit. Amazing. We always enjoy having dinner with Art and our discussions. Oct. 9th we went to Bridge Tavern on the waterfront in Sarnia with numerous seasonal campers from Branton-Cundick. This is our Thanksgiving dinner. We all had a good time and this will be the final meeting for a lot of us, for this year. It is getting cooler at the park and numerous people have packed it in for the winter. We still do not have the base plate for the car, but it is on its way. We moved to Rock Glen in Arkona on Oct. 11th because our seasonal park is now closed for the season. It is beautiful here at the park. Look at the color. The sky looks like it has a ton of snow ready to drop on us. It is time for us to leave. Oct 14th we took the car to Patterson RV and had the base plate installed. They also wired the car for tail lights. Now we are ready and can leave when we want to. Always last minute details. Today we went to see Dr. Thomson and received our prescriptions for the winter. It was a large order for the drug store, but they were able to assemble all of the pills and now we can mark that off of our to do list. Saturday we went and had coffee in Thedford with Russell. Another cousin Stella was also there. Every time we go to Thedford we seem to meet more relatives. We also had a dinner engagement in Chatham. We were going to a surprise birthday party for Doug's long time school friend Betty. We were picking her and her husband Bud up and taking them to Jersey's a restaurant in Chatham. They have a room at the front where parties are held. We walked into Jersey's and Betty wanted to go straight through into the normal part of the restaurant. I said that we should go this way and turned right. Everyone was there already and she couldn't believe her eyes. The room was packed. Everyone loves Betty. She is such a good, down to earth person and everyone just had to be there to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY". Doug had a pleasant surprise because several people remembered that it was Doug's birthday on the 15th and Betty's on the 18th. So we had a double celebration. It was a fantastic evening. Oct. 21st we woke up to a heavy frost. Soon the sun had melted it away, but now we know that it is a matter of days before winter arrives and we should be leaving. It has been a great summer. We emptied and unhooked everything. Turned in our gate pass and collected our membership card and were on our way. Lakeshore, Davison, Michigan here we come. We arrived, parked on one of our favorite sites, on our favorite street and settled in for a few days. Jody is coming over for the weekend to see us one last time before we leave, plus he needs a couple of days to re-charge his personal batteries. Every now and again he needs a few days to himself. We will enjoy his company.
we have a bit of sun and a bit of shade. The satellite dish was up and operational within minutes with a great signal. Jody arrived and we had dinner. Jody was tired after working and then driving to Davison, MI. We had and early night so we would be ready to enjoy this gorgeous fall weather. Saturday morning I had to cook my two best & friends (my husband Doug and son Jody) a fantastic breakfast. I love to cook when I have someone to cook for. Both my boys enjoy my cooking. They are my best fans. I am a lucky woman. After breakfast we decided to drive back to Pinconning to let Jody see theNorthwood Wholesale Outlet Store. It has such a variety of merchandise that one never knows what you will find on any particular visit. Just the experience of touring the store is worth the trip. It is an adventure. We came back and enjoyed each others company. We know that it will be many months before we see each other again. My baby can't come with us, he has to stay and work. Did I tell you he is a Millwright? Passed his exams with very good marks the very first time he wrote the exam. He says that several of his fellow students weren't as fortunate. It is a very difficult set of exams. He did real well for a guy that I could not get interested in reading, no matter how hard I tried. Wow! I am so proud of my boy. Here is one of my favorite photos of him, but all of my photos of Jody are my favorite ones. It has been a long time since he was this small. Jody left around noon Sunday. We won't see him again until Christmas in Arizona, if all goes as planned. That is only about two months away Monday we went to visit Cousin Pat in Auburn, MI. We always have a few good laughs when we visit. We wish that we could go to see her and Charlie more often. We had a good chat and told Pat that we would see them in the spring on our way home. Pat's Grandfather Charlie was a Homechild. Pat still had Charlie's trunk given to him by Barnardo Homes when he was sent to Canada. Pat knew that Doug had been looking for a Barnardo Home trunk, like his Father Percy would have been given and gave Doug her Grandfather's trunk. It is a great piece of history and we treasure it. This is also my baby sisters 53rd birthday-Happy Birthday Connie. When we returned to Lakeshore Outdoor Adventures we gathered up the hoses in preparation for our departure tomorrow. We are going to Branson, MO for a week. We left after breakfast. We cruised through Flint on Hwy 69 with little delay from the morning traffic. Soon Michigan was behind us and we were on our way to Branson. We weren't in a hurry and decided to stay at Mulberry Grove in IL. We stayed on site 3, a pull through site. Bell Expressvu setting were Elev 46-7, Lat 180. It was a Passport America Park and cost $15.00 including tax for the night. It was off of exit 52 on Hwy 70, and included hydro & water. Easy on and off. A nice park to stay for the night. Wednesday morning, Oct. 26th we were back on the road on our way to
Branson. We arrived in the early afternoon at Fall Creek Resort,
Branson, MO. The campground is a Coast to Coast Deluxe park.
We were in a walled and squared area for the week. The
streets and sites were paved, with very little grass. It was like
a parking lot. There was a golf
course behind us and we were surrounded by upscale condos. All the buildings you see are condos. The campground seems to be a token campground to bring the RVers into the park and maybe take the condo tour. It is a very large place, with lots of things to do, without leaving the resort. If you happen to go to this park, watch when you are backing in, because the electrical outlets are located directly in the middle of the pad where you are backing in. It would be very easy to back into the electrical post if you are not careful. Numerous people have already done that by the look of the posts. Many were at various angles of being pushed over. The first pad we parked in had a bad electric connection. We have an electrical monitor, which warned us of the problem. We went to the park office and told them about the problem and asked to move to another site. No problem. First we checked to make sure that the post wasn't leaning like a drunken sailor (no disrespect intended):}. We checked out the resort and then Branson. Our timing was off because we were in-between the regular season and the Christmas season. The shows that were still open were booked. Oh well, the shows that we wanted to see were way out of the range of our budget. We ended the month enjoying the fall scenery around the Branson area.
