Web Log for Sept. 16-30, 2006

Sept. 30 - This is not going to be a good day for the girl guides.  It rained off and on all night and is cool and drizzling.  They are pouring in from all directions on foot, in private cars and vans, and on big orange buses.  The rain isn't going to stop them from enjoying their day.  Some photos here.  Everyone involved with the girls day were smiling ear to ear.  The rain wasn't going to dampen their special day.  They were a very well organized group.  By 3:00 p.m. they were all gone and the only thing that remained to show that they were ever here were the porta-a-potties and the garbage bin.  There was not one stray piece of garbage anywhere to be seen.  What a great group and future leaders of our countries.

There is a great new website for RV'ers.  It is called RVscrapbook.com and has just added some new features to their site allowing chat between the members who are signed in.  What fun!  We hope that you have time to check them out and maybe join this fun RV community that is developing at this new site.  We hope to see you there.

I also added some new links in our Favorites page.  They are How To do a few RV related choirs.

We will end this month with a gorgeous sunset, after all the rain.100_2281 (Small).jpg (22867 bytes)

Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer weather, so I am out of here until then.  See ya!

Sept. 29 - We went grocery shopping in Corunna yesterday and completed a few other things towards getting ready to leave.  We also had another seasonal camper come and visit and invite us to their annual Pie Iron Party.  We weren't invited last year, so this will be a new experience.  Today we had more seasonal visitors.  Ralph and Gloria and then Joan.  Ralph and Gloria invited us to their bonfire tonight, but Doug really feels the cold and we don't want him catching a chill, and maybe delaying our departure for the sunny south.

We also watched with interest, the assembly of a meeting place for several hundred Brownies.  Every year the Brownies converge on the small day park at the front of our campground.  Last week a very large garbage bin was delivered.  Today about a dozen port-a-potties were placed.  There was also a van pulling a trailer that appeared and and parked, making ready for the invasion tomorrow.  We missed it last year, so await the event with interest.  The girls come from several states and provinces.  It is just a one day event, where they get to enjoy lots of fun with their piers.  We hope that it doesn't rain on their fun day and that they all come, enjoy their day and return home safely.  I have the batteries charged for the camera and hope to get some photos of the sea of Brownies.  More tomorrow.

Sept. 27 - We were up early and getting things done.  Dusting which I haven't had time to do the last couple of days (lots of dust blows through when the windows are open).  Also had last minute goodies to buy.  I was on my way to the grocery store by 9:15 a.m.  As early as I was, I think I met them on my way to the grocery store.  Had to go anyway and did my shopping (fresh delli meat and salads, fresh kaiser rolls, and a few other goodies) and back to Branton Cundick.  It was them.  We had a nice visit, Tim Horton Donuts (which they had brought), and coffee.  Soon we had lunch and they decided it was time to leave as the sky was going black and a storm front was rolling in.  They didn't like the thought of driving in the rain.  It is about a 5 hour drive for them.

We really enjoyed our visit.  I was also able to give Shirley the crochet items Doug's cousin Pat had given us for Cathy and Jocelyn.  I hope that they like them.

The rest of the day I worked on this site and Doug held the couch down.  Must be a very tiring job because I heard him catching some zzzz's. 8)

The storm front past over with just a few drops of rain.  We just received a severe thunderstorm alert from the Weatherbug until 6 P.M. so I am going to try and get this published and settle in for the storm.

Sept. 26 - Worked the last two days, now I get to play the balance of the week.  My brother Terry and sister-in-law Shirley is coming from Bowmanville, ON to see us tomorrow.  We are looking forward to seeing them.

You will notice that I have a new medallion on the top left of the webpages.  This website received a e-mail with the following quote " Congratulations! Your nomination has been unanimously accepted by the Founders of the Circle of Trust RV Family! "  We are so happy and honored to be able to display "The Circle of Trust RV Family" Logo and also the banner for the RV Lotto.  We hope that you will take the time to enjoy this fun and free lotto game.

We have lots to do to get ready for tomorrow, so I had better get moving.

Sept. 24 - The Bar-b-q went well yesterday.  Many seasonals returned returned just to attend.  At least half the park turned out for the great food and fellowship.  Everyone enjoyed their afternoon.  It rained about 3/4's of the way through the event, but everyone was safely under the sheltering roof of the picnic pavilion.

We were saddened to learn that Christine, one of the staff that has been with the park the longest is moving on at the end of this season.  Christine and her husband has bought some property in New Brunswick and are moving there.  We wish them the best of luck.  Christine will be missed as she has been a very hard-working, dedicated employee of Branton Cundick Campground for over ten years.

Our son Jody has been asking us to spend a few days at their place.  We have decided that we should do so because we have not had the opportunity to spend much time with them this summer.  Now we just have to work out when the best time would be.  We have the time, they don't have much spare time.  Time is growing short, but Jody said that Rachael will have spare time after our Thanksgiving.  We shall see.

We experienced high winds and gust of rain off and on all night.  Today is sunny, but dark clouds loom over the river and to our north.  Looks like snow in those clouds burrrr.

Tomorrow is another work day and Tuesday it is work and a pulmonary test for me.  I also have to call and see if I can get a reservation at our sister home park Lakeshore, Outdoor Adventures in Davison, MI.  I already have a reservation for there through our Coast to Coast Deluxe, but I want to make one through our Home Park Membership and that way it is a free stay.  If not I have the Coast to Coast to fall back on.  If I can make the reservation then I will just cancel our Coast to Coast and save our Trip Points for use later this winter.  We will be needing them soon......

Sept. 23 - Doug was up early and away to help Jody put the heads on the jeep motor.  I didn't go because I hadn't been able to sleep very well last night.  My old battle wounds from when I used to break and train horses were talking to me very loud, as the thunderstorms and rain made itself heard.  Several storm fronts roared through during the night.   Today is overcast and humid, but so far now rain.  There is more coming, hopefully it holds off until after the campground bar-b-q.  Several seasonels are here for this special day.

Doug was back early because it was the wrong heads.  Jody will let him know when he has the correct ones.

I am being lazy  today, sometimes one just has to do, what they have to do 8)  I have added some new links on Our Web Journal and Directory including links to a fun RVlottoand RV Daily News.  I hope that you have time to check them out as the lotto is a lot of free fun and the Daily News has a lot to tell us.  I am going to go back and have another look see myself, so see ya!

Sept. 22 - Started off cool this morning.  Soon it had warmed up and time to do the laundry.  We had an early lunch and then I loaded the clothes into the car and headed to the nearest laundry.  Only one or two more trips to this laundry and then it will be another one in another town. Ya!

By the time the laundry was finished, groceries bought and all back to the campground it was time for supper.  Doug didn't do much today, but will be busy tomorrow helping Jody put the heads on the jeep.  They are members of the Ontario Rock Climbers Assoc.  They really enjoy rock climbing and Jody keeps real busy repairing the jeep.

It is supposed to rain tonight and my built in barometer agrees with that.  I have been feeling the rain coming for three days now.

Sept. 21 - The first day of fall and Oh, What a beautiful Day.  It started out cool, and warmed up.  Isn't that what a fall day is supposed to be?  We hope it stays like this until we start south for the winter.

Doug is continuing to prepare the coach for our trip.  Today he put the bicycles on the rack and covered them with our bicycle cover.  They will stay there until we reach either Alabama or Florida because we find the hills to difficult to peddle at Rock Glen in Arkona.  The weather report keeps forcasting rain, sure doesn't look like it here.

I defrosted the fridge.  Our refrigerator works hard.  It runs year round.  Sometimes on electricity and sometimes on propane.  With all of the humidity this summer, the fridge  needed a break.  Before long I had it all defrosted, cleaned and back on cooling down.  I have added a new page "How Do I..."  I also added an article about cleaning the fridge from the outside, in the burner area.  I have also added some new links to great businesses, in our RVcruising American Mall,Camping World, Travel sites, Motels and Car rentals are just a few of the great Companies that are allowing me to put their banners on our site.  It is our intention to gathering all these great businesses into a North American Online Mall providing you our readers with a great resource for all of our shopping needs.  We hope that you will be able to have a look and let us know what you think.  We are looking forward to your feedback.  This is our first attempt at anything like this and value your opinion.

All of our photos and post for 2005 is now complete.  Hope that you have a chance to check them out.  There are quite a few beautiful photos of Arizona landscapes and also photos of Ghost Towns and Historical sites.

Another day is sliding into history...........

Sept. 20 -  The past two days were spent at the keyboard and telephone.  Not this keyboard, but the work one.  There is quite a difference.

When we left here yesterday morning the car was loaded.  We had the trunk and back seat full.  It was our annual "purge the coach of everything we haven't used, so we have room to buy more stuff we won't use day" 8).  After work we drove to our storage trailer.  We have it stored at Doug's friends place.  It is in a 24 foot cargo trailer and we leave it stored in Doug's friend's shed.  It is well protected from sight and the elements.  We hope to see his friends in Florida this winter.  They will be in the same area as we are in January and February.

We returned to the river, after we had unloaded the car.

Today, I have worked on this site all day.  I have added lots more shopping opportunities for everyone.  We hope that you check our new  RVcruising American Mall .  It will continue to grow.

The park is next to empty.  The 5th wheels, trailers and motorhomes are still here, but their owners have all gone to their stick homes.  This weekend many of them will be back for the Bar-b-q on Saturday.  The long range weather forecast says rain.  We hope that the sun shines part of the day so that everyone can  get out and see each other one last time before going their separate ways for the winter.  We will just have to wait and see.

I am down to four more days of work for this year.  Time flies.  I don't know where summer went.  We will enjoy being on the move again.  I will have something different to take photos of.  My camera is getting rusty.

Sept. 18 - Another work day, only 5 left this year.  8)  I enjoy the work, BUT I enjoy my freedom more.

Doug went with me today.  We drove down St. Clair Pkwy to Bent Path and took it across to Hwy 40 into Wallaceburg and Chatham.  Partway to Wallaceburg we me a line of farm tractors.  There were three with side dump wagons, two with two trailers each, then there were two tomato harvesters.  They have been busy taking off all the tomato fields in the area.  It doesn't matter if they are ripe or not.  They spray the field with some type of chemical one day and the next day all of the tomatoes are red and ready to be harvested.  No more back breaking work harvesting by hand.  The fields are cleared and the tomatoes on their way to the canners in a matter of hours, rather then days.  The tomatoes being harvested, the geese forming flocks for their long flights south, the little sparrows gathering into flocks, the leaves turning to fiery splender, all point to the changing of the seasons.

As I sit here typing this there is a gentle pitter patter on the roof from the gentle rain that is falling.

My pillow is calling, the rain is lulling me to sleep.  Good night all.

Sept. 16 - We are another day closer to leaving for the winter, but it is a typical Saturday here.  Doug cleaned the side sun screens from the coach and put them away.  We don't want to run the chance of them being wet when we put them away until we are in the sunny south.  If they get wet and then freeze they might end up cracking or tearing as we try to put them away.  It shouldn't get that could, but one never knows now.

I went into Corunna and bought some groceries.  We are trying to use up all the groceries in the pantry, fridge and freezer.  We want everything gone as much as possible.  Groceries weigh a lot also, for such an extended trip.

I came back and popped a piazza in the oven for supper.  It was a nice treat.  After supper I realized that I could possibly make reservations for Lakeshore, Davison, Michigan through our Coast to Coast Deluxe membership.  We had been told by American Outdoor Adventures a sister membership park to our Outdoor Adventures, that we could only book thirty days in advance through our home park system.  That is no good, because that is their Halloween weekends and it will be very difficult to get a reservation at that time.  I had tried booking through Resorts of Distinction and there were no sites available until Nov. 1st.  We will be in Alabama by then.  Then I thought of Coast to Coast.  I logged in, checked availability and bingo, we are booked in for the exact dates I wanted.  Now when Sept. 24th comes around I will call our home park reservation system and try to book in that way (free stay) if not, we still have our Coast to Coast Deluxe reservation at $8.00 a night.  We like that.  At the same time we were logged in, I made reservations for our one night in Kentucky, also through Coast to Coast Deluxe.  I like being able to book online because I can see the dates available and work our schedule around the parks that we want to go to and their available dates.  We like having multiple memberships to fall back on.  We now have reservations until the end of November.  I book as far in advance as possible.  It is always easier to cancel a reservation, then it is to get one at a late date.

Until next time, have a good weekend.
