We stayed at this park in Nov. 2005 for two weeks. This park is in the high desert, just south of Benson. It is a Western Horizon park and we were at this park using our Resorts of Distinction Plus membership, so it was a free stay. The view was excellent. We had a great view of the sunrise every morning.
It was still early for the snowbirds, so the park was far from being full
This park was loaded with sand burrs, or as the people native to the area call goat heads. The burrs looked like goat heads with very sharp horns. The burr part (horns) pierced the soles of my sandals and right into the soles of my feet. They were everywhere. All the tan ground cover, in the photo above, is packed with these sand burr/goat heads. They were awful. People, including us, through our patio rugs away, because we were unable to get the sand burrs off the underside of the rugs. The poor dogs were in misery going for their walks. The owners of the dogs kept them on the roadways as much as possible to save their paws. Some of the dogs would stop and whine, holding the hurt foot up until its owner removed the offending burrs. Some dogs had little booties on, to protect them from the burrs. I didn't take any pictures of the booties, but here is one from the net of a proud puppy bootie owner.
Doesn't he look a happy fellow? We had a repair fellow in to look at our furnaces, and he told us that this was the only park in the area that did not do anything to get rid of the burrs. We did not go back to this park on our return from western Arizona. We stayed at St. David instead. The park itself is as nice as any other park in Arizona, where we stayed. The people were friendly and there was numerous activities to keep everyone busy. Shopping in Benson was just a few miles to the north and Tombstone was within 40 miles to the south. We heard coyotes singing to the moon, several times during our stay. What a lonesome, eerie sound they make.
