Jan. 23, 2006 - We went to Casa Grande Ruins in Coolidge, AZ.

It is a very interesting place with a lot of history.  There were a few people there all looking at the buildings that have endured the test of time.

We checked out all of the ruins.  As usual, when it is not rust and rubber, Doug tried his best to be interested, but just couldn't get into it.  To me I could feel the history and wanted to check everything out in great detail.  Something that I found interesting, and amusing was located inside the main ruin.  If you go to the back you will see a doorway.  Stand in the doorway and look up to your left on the inside wall along the staircase.  You will see some American Graffiti from 1870's.  It was so cool to see it there and think of them spending the night or longer in the shelter of this historical site, not knowing that millions of people will be looking at it, down through the ages.  Also to know that even some of America's finest still has the desire to let the world know that they were "Here".

To see what I did, you have to go around from the front to the back and the doorway is in the back.

I talked to some people since then, and none had taken the time to really look at the interior of this historical site, and none had seen the graffiti.  If you are there, I hope that you take the time to look and see "the rest of the story".  Someone researching their roots would be over the moon to discover that little piece of history.

I was just about to discover the graffiti.  I turned around and looked inside, glanced up to the left and there it was, scratched into the dried adobe.  The discovery was a bonus for this trip. There was also a playing field for an ancient game.

All to soon our visit to Casa Grande Ruins was history, like the site.  It was well worth the visit and the unexpected discovery was icing on the cake.
