It is going to be a long drive today, but well worth it.  We will be driving around 600 miles round trip today.  We are up early and on the road.  It is quite cool and the farther north we went, the colder it became.  Soon we were seeing snow along the sides of the highway. 100_1452 (Small).jpg (41231 bytes)

The miles dropped behind us quickly.  Soon we were through Flagstaff and at the entrance to the Grand Canyon.  It was still quite cold, but we braved it.

100_1472 (Small).jpg (84559 bytes)What would a trip to the Grand Canyon be without a photo of the sigh?  Doug wouldn't get out of the car so that I could get his photo by the sign.  He said it was "To Cold!"  I am going to have to learn to set the timer on the camera to take a photo of myself.  Anyway, onward and upward. 8).  We drove on around the rim and stopped at the main visitor center.  There are no photos or words that can adequately describe the Grand Canyon.  You will have to go and see it yourself.  Here are a couple more photos.

100_1492 (Small).jpg (79221 bytes)This guy was lying about 25 feet from the side walk in the main visitor area and he was seemed to be enjoying the sunshine and peace.  He blended in so well that many people walked right by him, without even knowing that he was there.  I stood and watched him for some time, then went back to the car and convinced Doug that he should come and see what had delayed me.  He came back and you can see from this photo how close the elk was to the sidewalk.  You can also see part of a sign at the bottom of the photo.  I found it very amusing because it said.  Don't feed the coyotes.

We left this area and did the south circle out into the painted desert.  100_1499 (Small).jpg (58603 bytes)

100_1536 (Small).jpg (46874 bytes)I wasn't able to take very many photos.  I was driving and it was getting late in the day, so I didn't have time to stop and take photos.  Sure was pretty out through there.  Well worth the drive.
